Contrary to what another poster wrote here, I have nothing but praise for Advanced Tree Technology. I ordered an Autumn Blaze Maple and an Exclamation London Planetree. Both were carefully packaged, and quite large for the price paid (well over 4'). Both trees leafed out beautifully this Spring and are doing great. There's no way I could have found trees this nice and of this variety at any of the local big box stores (HD, Wally World, Lowe's) and as far as Pike's in Georgia is concerned, they're basically a has-been joke which went into bankruptcy. So I for one am thankful for internet nursery options. "Second of all, that site doctors their photos." This is an empty argument. How many web sites DON'T doctor their photos?? At least enough to enhance color and contrast. It's standard practice for most. Shabby image, shabby sales. Sharp, colorful image, better sales. That's common sense, not suggestive of anything criminal. "Third of all, they sell junk trees. Paulownia, Pear trees, silver maples. These are junk trees that you don't want." Either this poster is deliberately going out of their way to smear this company, or they have Advanced Tree Technology confused with someone else. No where in ATT's current catalog or web site will you find either silver maples OR paulownia trees. Check for yourself (see link). Yes, they do sell a hybrid Cleveland Select pear, which is supposed to be an improvement over the old Bradfords. Just because this poster sees it as a 'junk tree' doesn't mean everyone else feels the same way. "Forth of all, after shipping, a 3-4' tree is $71.90 THAT IS A RIP-OFF." Again, I have no clue where this poster is getting their facts and figures, unless they live in Timbuktu. I live in GA, and still have my receipt. Only $64.50, including S+H, for 2 trees shipped in soft fabric rootbags. I thought it was a pretty good deal, even more so since I'm happy with both trees and they're doing fine. Yes, we are Sunset 3B here.... The sunshine on most days and temps in summer is the reason so much agriculture grows successfully here. Of course, they irrigate. I am surprised Wenatchee is the same zone as us, but I guess it doesn't take into account the amount of snowfall they get (They are probably the -15f extreme.. we are more like -5f.) RE: the suitability of the trees I listed, The Thornless Honeylocust seems to thrive here, it does well in alkaline soil and is drought tolerant. As a prairie tree, it thrives in full sun. I have noticed many honeylocusts in yards that do not irrigate, growing just fine... The list of negatives of the tree is pretty short, and it seems very adaptable to our conditions. Linden -- RE: irrigating, I don't know. We will have some lawn on the property, so a tree/trees in that area would get more water. Linden tolerates alkaline soil and has small leaves... Thus, it seemed to be an *option.* ash -- I still have to go to our local extension office.. I will ask them about borers here. Ash also tolerates alkaline soil and was another option for my lawn area. If the borers are that bad here, I won't consider it.

I have several October Glory and my neighbor has several Autumn Blaze. They are all planted fairly close together in our back yards. The Autumn blaze are growing faster, but the thing I do not like about them is that when they turn color in the fall(darker red than mine), they drop the leaves right away so you can not even enjoy the color change. My October Glory are a brighter red and put on a longer show.

OMG. I have this going on (and have, since about 2006) with a Red Sunset. I've had arborists out who didn't know, people here insisting it was lawn mower damage, you name it. But no one knows. Mine, too, is in the middle of a garden, so no mower. It has spread to an English Hawthorne, a Sango Kaku, and on to an October Glory. Across the yard, a Trompenburg has started. So geographically, about 100 yards, and cross species. The only helpful info is that yes, it does seem to be healing itself. The other suggestion was to spray the trunk with a 50/50 solution of bleach and water. If it is a fungus, which is what one of the arborists thought, the tree is fighting back. The original tree has wood pecker holes in the bark, telling me it's fighting bugs. If I limb it up, it starts another ulcer-ish area like this. It's still growing, but I happen to think it might be stunted. The English Hawthorne finally broke in half in a wind storm, and the October Glory isn't deeming it serious enough to pay it any mind. Truly, you have exactly the same (looking) thing I have going on. I have a cell camera now, which I didn't then. I'll get a pic and post it for you to compare. I'd be very interested to see what you come up with. Edited to add: I went back and got the thread for you and I see I never got to post the pictures then, either. The other trees mentioned seem to have shaken this off, because checking them, the scars are there, but they've grown out of it. I promise pics.
