What about leaving the hardie board as is and doing the shutters in dark brown with a sage green front door. Or you could do the shutters and front door in all in sage......you could even make one or the other a bit darker for some contrast. I also like the idea of an orange front door with sage shutters....maybe a little more subtle than the designer picked out if you think it's too bright.

I might paint the garage door the color of the bricks so it isn't the focal point of the house. Also the downspout. If you change the posts, I would make them a little beefier. If you leave them as is you could paint them the color of the hardie so they blend in more. I like your house!

I'd like the brick with blue/blue-green shutters, and paint the garage door the same creamy color as the hardie board.

Here are a few. The lighter color would be your siding color, the brighter color the door and one of the med to darker shades the shutters. The red, brown and orangy shades represent the brick and roof.

I would go with a slightly darker field color, a sage green, reddish-brown shutters and a yellow front door. Also paint the garage door the same as the field color. Beef up those columns.

The combo suggested to you by the designer seems very boring to me. And I think that making the field color a darker wheat color will just make brown on brown. I would not repeat the roof color in the body of the house and instead compliment it with a livelier color combo.

Hi Cindy, don't know if you are still looking at colors but here is one idea. I tried a mockup with every color door and shutter imaginable and to me a nice navy looked best with the door a tic brighter than shutters. The door molding surround looked horrible until I beefed it up and did a slight beef up of posts. I took one of the darker colors in the brick and grayed it down a tad but kept it in a warmer tone. At first I tried lighter colors on the porch area siding and it really just looked okay...nothing special. Your brick is beautiful! I love these colors together.

This color combo wouldn't work anywhere near as well with your skinny door surround molding or skinny posts. It's the contrast of the hunkier light molding against the rest that gives the house a whole new look.

The way to tone down a color you hate is to go low contrast. In other words, chose a tone, whatever that tone is, that is similar in strength to the roof color. Not the same color, but not drastically darker or lighter. Also, close in the color wheel range also tones it down, unless you hate the close colors. But a greyish blue or bluish grey does go well with orange without drawing attention to its orangeness as long as it is the same level of light or darkness. (Sorry, I'm using layman's terms, I am no color theorist). At least that was my experience toning down trim in my bedroom that was orangey. Painting the garage in a similar tone to the roof will also tone it down because then the roof won't be contrasting with the bright white garage door. It could be a light brown or cream or whatever, as long as it is not super bright or super dark. Also, super bright or dark would call attention to the garage door, which I assume you will not want to do.
