Help me pick granite/backsplash

What color granite and what type of backsplash would you recommend to go with our cypress cabinets and pine floors? I tend to like French country styles. Probably a level 2/3 granite for pricing.

Oooh, I'd go soapstone in a heartbeat with your cabinets - it'd be gorgeous. Maybe with a cream or white tile?

I like the soapstone - that is pretty.

I went with a light countertop. I don't know much about the different granites, but a light one with a white or cream backsplash would be pretty.

The sink is the Kohler Whitehaven "short apron" style farmhouse sink and it can be installed on a standard sink base. I think that a farm sink could be part of a French Country style.

My hood is a bit French Country, but since you have the micro, that is probably not an option, though I did get mine later and stained it to match my cabinets. My decor of vintage china and floral art is also a French Country touch.

I will be adding the quartz to my island in about a month.

I think you made very nice choices in the end. I like the backsplash you picked, because as others posted about the glass.... it brings down the quality of the kitchen..... The flooring...I think it will work out fine. We are having the same problem. I actually like the wider plank but either would work. I do like the color you choose and it was my first choice....then it would have been a brown picked up in your original flooring. I hope you post pics when you are finished! Oh just as an afterthought....did anyone suggest you do the backsplash in the same countertop granite? That might have worked also, but it's a different look and maybe an outdated look also?....I think you chose a good product...bet it's gorgeous! Best wishes on it's completion!!!

I don't like the 4" backsplash for the following reasons: - if you are doing a decorative tile for the rest of the backsplash, you are now decreasing and cutting off your design area by 4". - the 4" creates a little "shelf" that gets dusty, just one more thing to clean. - added expense to install the 4" piece of granite along your countertop. - people who say you "need it" to cover a gap between the countertop and the tiled wall just don't have good installers. My kitchen walls are extremely out-of-plumb, but my tile backsplash meets my granite countertop with no gaps cause I had experienced installers. - IMHO it looks dated, since the 4" idea was popular with formica in the '70's. I would only do a 4" backsplash if I were doing no other backsplash at all and just leaving drywall on the rest of the wall. And even in that case, I'd try to make it a little higher, like 5" or 6".

Herb ~ I thought about using an accent behind the cooktop but I'm not sure I like them! I really like the diamond too. Philo ~ I'll look at the waterjet tile tonight, thanks for the link! The cabinets were custom made by a local shop. I went with a 3" stile and rail and absolutely love the look. The leathered steel grey is even better in person ;) Barncatz ~ The first thing I learned on Houzz... everything looks better with your pet in the pic! Great idea about grouting the sheets... I wonder if they sell small samples? The convex tile was purchased at Arizona Tile and it's priced really well so using that would save me a ton! We put it up horizontally and vertically, I like it horizontal. H202 ~ Do you like the marble subway or the plain tile? Nosoccer ~ I love the look of that light grey grout. Mayflowers ~ Would the white diamond be too much pattern or should I be looking at texture vs color?

My previous home has miles of pine v-match wainscot and eave walls, with wood floors in oak and pine. Floors and wainscot were finished in a clear poly, and we easily had every shade seen in your kitchen (from these photos) from the darker ruddy brown to the paler cabinet colors. With the natural lighting and smaller, low ceiling rooms, we found that saturated colors worked best with all the wood tones. The green below is SW Sassy Green. All this to say I think a saturated mid-tone green or orange would look good in that space. A few years ago, a kitchen reveal was posted on here of a kitchen that was done to reflect the MCM roots of the house, and they used a mosaic tile in bright shades small square tiles, and it looked perfect in the kitchen. I don't know wether it would work with that granite, though. Alas, I cannot find that kitchen again. Good luck! I hope it was not too hard to leave your fab previous kitchen!

I agree Soapstone would look great. There are a lot of beautiful Soapstone options. The colors in the countertops will dictate the backsplash so first pick the countertops no rush on the backsplash.

Soapstone is not for everyone. Research the pros and cons and see if it is right for you.

If you like the look of soapstone, try Virginia Mist granite. You can have it honed.

For your cabinets, I would also look at Costa Esmeralda, or other green granites.
