Knockout Rose Lifespan

krnuttle

We live near the edge of the coastal plan and the Piedmont east of Raleigh NC.

We have a south facing planter in front of the full length porch on our house. It is on a slope and the depth of the planter runs for about 6" to 24". The planter is made out of landscape blocks on the front and the back is the brick wall of the porch. When built it appears that good soil was brought in to fill the planter.

Six years ago when we bought the house there were a couple of read knockout rose and boxwoods in the planter. The next summer we took the boxwoods out and added more Knockout roses.

For the first five years, the roses were covered with blooms for the summer. However one started to die, and by the end of the summer it was gone. This spring it appears another is doing the same way. We saw no sign of diseases that we had knowledge of, and there was no signs of stress.

Could someone help to save these roses?

If some one recognizes a disease is there any way to treat it.
