Trip to Brazilian market

Yesterday we decided to visit the Brazilian Cultural Center in Culver City (about 10 minutes away), and when we got there, we found that it was nothing but a dance studio, and so we drove a few block more to the Brazilian market on Venice Blvd that I go to from time to time. I wanted to talk with some Brazilian about our upcoming trip, and since I was going to the market, I decided to buy some ingredients as well.

They had guava paste (Goiabada in Portuguese), and so I bought some of that, since I've not had it before. I also bought some passion fruit jam. When I lived in Venice, I had a guava tree and a passion vine, and so these ingredient remind me of being back there, next door to my Brazilian neighbor. I also bought some olives (Spanish) and a couple of children's comic books, which I thought might help me learn some Portuguese. One of the books specifically states that it is meant for this purpose, although I did not know it at the time.

I plan to use the passion fruit jam on ice cream, the next time I make vanilla, and I plan to use the guava paste in smoothies. The guava paste is from Brazil, imported by a company in Pompano Beach, Florida, but I cannot tell where the passion fruit jam was made, and so I have to guess that it is domestic. It is Goya brand, Secaucus NJ. and might be made in Puerto Rico. It got bad reviews on Amazon, where it costs twice as much as in the store. I'm anxious to try it now to see if it has any flavor. I have to wait until I buy some yogurt before I try the guava paste, but I have a feeling that it will be better, even though I prefer passion fruit to guavas.
