Which floor goes well with walnut-colored cabinets?
Comments (3)I recently did an Austrailian Cyprus floor. Looked neat. But that may be too cabin like for you. If you have dark cabinets i would go light floor. Nice contrast and also dark floors show dust almost immediately after cleaning. Also light floors tend to make rooms look larger. Just my opinion....See MoreWhich goes on first: baseboards or floor?
Comments (13)I have been in the engineering and construction arena since 1964 and the best option depends on the type of baseboard. But generally the baseboard goes in place first and then 2nd the floor whether ceramic or vinyl tile, hardwood or laminate and the shoe mold 3rd (most times no shoe molding when installing carpet). The shoe mold will cover any expansion gaps against the baseboard. Look at it this way flooring and underlayment comes in various thicknesses and if you ever need or want to change the flooring (thinner or thicker than the existing flooring) most likely if the baseboard is installed on top of the original floor it will need to be removed to fit the new flooring style. AND if the new flooring is thinner it may require not only removal of the baseboard (to lower it) and repair the wall and paint (or wallpaper) the difference. In other words why limit your options, baseboard first. Just removing and reinstalling or replacing the shoe mold to install a new floor is much, much more easier and less expensive. Besides you want low resistance on the floor for expansion and contraction and placing the baseboard on top of the flooring adds resistance (shoe mold is nailed to the baseboard not through the flooring). NOTE: This recommendation is for dry locations like bedrooms, dining rooms, living rooms, family rooms. Wet locations like bathrooms, laundry/wash rooms, mud rooms, kitchens etc. is a different application....See MoreWhich gray paint color goes best with dark hardwood floors?
Comments (6)You may also find it helpful to consider paint colour from a different perspective. Every grey paint is a knocked-back, greyed-out child colour of an identifiable, fully saturated Hue Parent. That information alone gives you useful detail about a colour. Knowing where within that Hue Family a colour sits can also give you an idea if you are potentially dealing with a colour which may hint more peachy or more greenish for example. And thirdly all the colours you mention are near neutrals and therfore far more susceptible to changes in light quality than their more saturated relatives. All have the potential to shift colour in imbalanced lighting. In order to know how each will behave it’s important to test carefully in your space with your light. See the Colorography Lab at The Land of Color for further info on some of these colours key attributes, so that you might be able to filter out some possibilities before sampling....See MoreWhich of these 8 samples of LVP flooring goes with my maple cabinets??
Comments (17)[Note: The numbering used in this comment refer to the original post, as Hillcrest and Elgin Oak have swapped positions in the subsequent post of den photos.] #1 Elgin Oak has my vote, and here's why: I'm not a fan of the board stripes of #4, English Breakfast. (You want attention to be drawn out the windows to your lake view -- not to your floor's stripes.) #3 Fawn has a more uniform coloration than #4, but is a pinky brown, a fact which is accentuated next to the gray. #2 Hillcrest looks pinky brown next to the gray, too, wheras the gray just makes #1 Elgin Oak more golden. #1 Elgin Oak includes the Maple cabinetry's golden yellow in its coloration, and is the brightest option (if you are trying to keep the space light & bright). A previous poster asked about going darker with the flooring, and you may want to try that before making a selection. (Unless you already know you want a light floor.)...See Moreannac54
