Hey Guys Here's My Ang Leonis!!!!!!!(Pics)
Comments (12)Not to be picky but I actually consider Stewart, et. al. to be comprehensive. The 'new Ang bible' as I fondly think of it, covers all the (known at publish date) 690 species of Angraecoid orchids. I definitely hope Brooke is right and it will not be the last Ang book written. It has elevations for all the species, you can't ask for much more than that. If one is resourceful, one can find the 'old Ang bible', "An Introduction to the Cultivated Angraecoid Orchids of Madagascar" by Hillerman and Holst, published in 1986. Oh to have been Ang-aware in the mid 80s...*sigh* It is out of print and remains the most expensive book I've ever bought. Last I saw one available, the price was $100 MORE than I paid. :) (get it on inter-library loan) One might also consider "African orchids in the wild and in cultivation" by Isobyl and Eric LaCroix, available quite cheap on amazon. "Orchids of Kenya" by Stewart & Campbell. "Orchids of Africa" by Stewart & Hennesey. "Orchids of Tropical Africa" by Stewart & Campbell. I even have "Orchids of Malawi" by Morris. Good luck finding that! :) Three cheers for Stewart! Three cheers for Hillerman! Three cheers for Angs!!! -MB...See MoreHey Guys I'm Back
Comments (20)Smile. It really is paradise but it is a lot of work. I wish I had about 1/3 of it would be plenty to maintain. I think about how to downsize all the time but the work to downsize is so much work I keep plodding along. I am really happy with those violets!! Heck I bought them at Walmart and repotted them into the larger blue and white pots using African violet potting mix. I water them about weekly making a best effort to dump in the pot not on the leaves and usually put a couple drops of that violet food you pick up and just drop in. I think a lot of it is getting them in the right place. They are really happy on that table where they get indirect but a lot of light. They have quit blooming a couple times for a few weeks but come out again in glory. I love them....so old fashioned....See MoreCan/should I put a chair rail here?
Comments (5)I think you could put up chair rail. If you did, I would continue it on the other side of the door and stop at the column, as you suggested. However, I am not sure that will solve your problem. It seems like the wall would be getting beat up by the metal curves on the back of the chairs, and conventional chair rail would be below that level, so wouldn't help. Wainscot would be the same. Plus then you would have the beat up wood chair rail to look at if it did work. Since you seem to have a western theme going, what about getting some of the tin tiles that used to be used on ceilings, and running a row of those across? Or, put a wide piece of barnwood across, and then add a double row of rope across the center, right at the point where the chair hits the wall. The rope wouldn't get dinged as wood might, and it would be easy to replace over time if it got worn....See MoreWhat should I put here?
Comments (11)You could put the two pieces of art you have in a vertical line to the right of the cabinets, but I'm not sure anything is needed there. I'd first remove that light and cover the outlet with a larger piece of artwork. Install under-counter lighting to replace of the existing light and run a piece of trim along the bottom edge of the overhead cabs to hide the under-counter lighting. If you go with one large piece of art over the sink consider running a piece of wood trim along the outer edge of the opening. It could butt against the top trim and stop where the ledge trim is. Then the coffee cup art could be hung elsewhere. I would go crazy with a light in my face while I'm at the sink!...See Moremad_gallica (z5 Eastern NY)
