Comments (38)"Vision" is a kind way to put it Igloo! There was something about the house that pulled us in when we saw it, despite the total lack of curb appeal and the hideous kitchen, bathrooms, living areas, garden, etc etc. Flyleft, yes, wine above the fridge (required to give us the "vision"). I know its not the best place to store it, but we're not talking long-term storage here! The wine fridge has "good" wine (1 bottle of) and a couple of beer bottles but is mostly full of Pellegrino water. Your DD is getting a very thorough education in "Advanced Remodeling", she will be ready to graduate soon ;) Soigne, we got the L-brackets at Lowes. i think they were in the hardware area (not the shelf bracket aisle, those were not heavy-duty enough). they were very cheap, maybe $10 each. Dgmarie, I don't know whether the pendant lights are code. I do know i have seen other pics on here of pendants hanging over sinks, which doesn't mean that its code of course. My DH installed them (and the undercab lights). They each have their own box in the cabinet right above the pendant, so if they somehow fell, they would cut out. But i do not know if its code -- anyone else know? Mystery, we like the fridge but wish we had gone with the french-door version you have as we didn't think about clearance between door and island -- there is not too much space to get round the door when its open (at least not for me, but thats another topic!). Yes, I agree the freezer is annoying, but i suppose all bottom-freezers must be similarly so. I do prefer having the fridge on top as we are not huge freezer-users, so for us, the frustrations of the bottom-freezer are worth it. The cooktop is fantastic, my DH researched and bought it and I'm very glad we went with induction. We paid a lot less by importing it (I think it was about $1000), as I've read for others importing from the UK or NZ....See MoreIKEA vs Thomasville kitchen cabinets
Comments (17)We remodeled our kitchen in April 09. We have Thomasville cabinetry and I have been very happy with them and I thought after searching many other cabinetry places that the price was right. At Home Depot they are offering great incentives..like free sink base, $4,000 off order. 50% off the glazing which we did have done, 5 Free pull out drawers. I was able to get many more upgrades because of the money they had taken off. All the drawers have been automatically ugraded..1/2inch sides. Also all drawers have the slow close mechanism which is another upgrade that is now considered their standard drawer. The boxes all arrived safely and if there were any problems they just shipped out the new piece no questions asked. I used my own installer ( my brother in law) so I felt I got a great deal esp if you want to order...and install yourself. I can send pictures if interested. I did spend many hours with the Home Depot cabinet expert to decide what I wanted...there are many decision to make as you know. There was a couple design mistakes that they fixed and reordered a different size drawer etc. The cherry wood with black whiskey glaze is beautiful and I love the full overlay which usually makes the cost so much higher. I did have a problem with the decorative hood I ordered..Thomasville has a smaller hood and I wish they had more sizes to choose from...also the vents that home depot sells to fit the hoods do not have enough CFM and I thought I might have to do without it but my installer made it work by adding to it and making it come out longer over my burners. I also bought the fan from Vent a hood because I have a wolf dual fuel oven. That is one of the down falls of designing your own kitchen and not having the convenience of custom made pieces. It all worked out in the end and we couldn't be happier. Look at their deals online or go to Home Depot. I also used a o% interest card for most of it for a year....See MoreDelima with small u-shaped Ikea kitchen with corner cabinets
Comments (17)I have a similar issue with a corner cabinet. I have space for 44" but have an IKEA corner cabinet in a 47" that came with the house (we bought in October). The kitchen was in process of being remodeled and the kitchen was still in boxes. This is the only area we are having an issue with. If we use the 47" completely, it will offset my sink and window. Can't move those items. Would we be able to cut 3" off of the backside of the 47" cabinet and be ok? The door will have to be custom-made, I understand. It still leaves plenty of space in which to get into the cabinet. We also know we'd have to modify the large shelf that goes with it (again, 3" off of the back). My kitchen is slightly larger than the image above. Sink in same place and a 12" cabinet to the right that butts up against our refrigerator. This is our only problem child. The previous owners didn't leave us with anything other than the floorplan of what they were going to do. We're novices...at best. lol We currently have no cabinets in, the floors had to be completely redone and look amazing now. We had to put in some new outlets and redo the drywall. We're at the cabinet stage of our kitchen redo....See MoreChrome kitchen faucet goes well with matte black cabinet door handle?
