Beef cattle are one live stock species that as long as you have good fences, good rotated pastures , and good water you do not have to be there everyday, but you should everyother day. Do not let cattle in ponds, I know people do, but if you want to be at your best do not, especialy if you are not present every day. Cattle can get caught in the mud and die, cattle can drown, cattle defecate in water and spread worms and disease, ponds are expensive, cattle are like bulldozers and evertime in and out they fill the pond with sediment and wear down the dam, the 2 books I mentioned discuss this in detail. Also the NRCS will help design and pay for water facilities and even ones that do not freeze in winter. You need to subscribe to the Stockman Grassfarmer, run a search to find the website, 3 year subscriptions are 56 dollars and well worth it, they have a great book resource, another good one is any one by Allan Nation, and Greg Judy. josh...See More? for small business crafters who make a living
Comments (9)Thanks christopherh. I was wondering how you survived Irene. We will have cobra so are not elegible for the state plan, but I sent the link to a friend of mine whose cobra may be expiring. $1500/mo is too much for us to do for long unless we want to deplete our savings. I have applied for a part time job that would about cover the cobra. That may be the best solution at the moment while we look for a policy for our business. I am hoping to find a business policy to cover employees that is not too expensive, rather than an individual plan. Unfortunately if our business paid all or part of our cobra, it apparently is not considered a business insurance expense and therefore not elegible for the tax incentives to provide health care to employees. Has to be a policy "owned" by the business. At least that's my reading of the rules. But an insurance professional my know more. I think what holds entreprenuers back is the expense of health insurance, not regulations as some claim. Kathy...See MoreDon't make this mistake..learn from me!
Comments (6)Any of the marble and even tumbled stone can vary and you just don't know until you open your box just what your run of tile will look like. Be prepared to order extra boxes to pick through. I also ripped out my first backsplash. Join the club, there are a few of us here. My tile was a simple white crackle tile. It was installed beautifully. But after it was grouted it had a slight grey cast that looked horrible with the granite. How could I have known this would happen? We ripped it out the next day. But then it took me months to find a replacement. It became an obsession. Finally a sale woman said "At some point you need to make peace with this." And she was right. But, I had to go through the process of getting mutiple opinions so I wouldn't make another error. Post your choices here. GW's will love to give you our opinion. Good luck. Your husband sound like mine. If he was agreeable to ripping it out, than he is in your corner....See MoreWeek 59: busy, busy, busy!!!!
Comments (35)My electrician (aka hubby) finally got my second pendant hung over the island today!! You may or may not remember when I posted this pic back in September or October Right after I built and installed my temp island. The area looked, quite frankly, somewhat ridiculous. An 8 ft long island with this one lone pendant hanging over one end of it. The reason it was there was because that was an existing box that used to have a fluorescent light box on it. I knew I wanted to put in another box ran off of the first one and install 2 pendants, well, today it finally got done!! Yay!! Not only is it aesthetically pleasing but there is soooo much more light over my island now! Can I just mention again how much I love the smoke colored glass in these pendants? Also, in keeping with our weekly thread "no accomplishment is too small", I tracked down some spare 2x6 and cut blocks to fit in the old window spot. I also got the piece of drywall cut to install. The only reason I haven't yet is because I am thinking of creating a "time capsule" to put in the wall before I close it off. Chances are that spot will be opened again at some point in the future, it is where the MIL quarters and main house meet. Even if I never open it back up, I thought it would be cool to leave a "treasure" there for someone to discover in the future. Tell me truthfully, does that sound really lame or kinda cool?...See MoreAnna Cunningham
