Thankyou very much for your help, there seems to be something wrong with my tropical greenhouse enviroment because it is not such the Philodendron Melanochrysum that is sending out small leaves, other species of Philodendron are also doing the same, in particular Philo.Giganteum whose leaves have started getting smaller for no apparent reason. I also grow ALocasia and Anthurium in the same greenhouse with no problems, its just the darn Philo's dont seem to like it in there and i don't no why.

The top 6 feet of the post is covered with big 2 ft sheets of corkbark. The orchids are mounted in mesh bags filled with moss and stapled on. The bottom half is just wrapped with coir fiber mat.There's an aroid climbing up the bottom half (small now but will get fairly large leaves eventually) called Epipremnum "Skeleton Key". I traded some Jade Vine for it, its really rare. (See the Natural Selections Exotics website). SOme of the other climbers are Philodendron melanochrysum, Philodendron ilsemanii, Philodendron Strawberry Shortcake, and Philodendron Painted Lady. For the anthuriums I put in one of my Anthurium regales, and an Anthurium luxurians. I have a specimen of Anthurium faustinomirandae that I may plant over to the side, but it gets absolutely huge so I need to really think about that one. It would be a big space hog. The PVC totems can be expanded infinitely to run all over the walls. They are just left open on top. Using elbows, T pieces and angle pieces you can make them go in all directions. Its better than grapevine or natural wood because it won't decay. The coir might have to be supplemented after a lomg while but the grapevines I originally used got so brittle over time that they just started breaking under the weight of the plants mounted on them. The idea for them came from someone on another forum (an Aroid forum) since treefern totems are becoming more and more scarce and expensive and are hard to "join" seamlessly, this is a great alternative. Also makes it easier to remove plants like climbing philodendrons if you ever need to. The feathery little Chamaedorea glaucifolia palm is supposed to be a lightning fast grower...it keeps an extremely thin trunk but attains an eventual height of 16-18 feet. The Kerriodoxa elegans palm (White elephant palm) in fromt of it will eventually get 10-15 feet with HUGE undivided leaves like big dinner plates. The leaves stay flat. Its a stunning palm and very rare. It only grows in a small single locale in Thailand in nature.

Hi Isn't it odd how thiese type of vines leaves get larger as they gain height but will immediately revert to small when on the ground?? Have nothed with pothos that it can grow several feet maybe indefinitely with small leaves but if you attach it to a tree the very next leaf will be 4 time larger!! Put it back on the ground it will revert again lol adaptation to get up where the sun is I guess?? Syngonium is even more remarkable as it changes color as well as shape of the leaf. Flowering for me was remarable in that it had not done it in over 20 years !! Sure hope the seeds are NOT viable lol gary
