Lighting for Cymbidium orchids
Comments (4)Arthur, It's all about size and height for most indoor growers. I'd like to try a cym (outside most of year, indoors in winter), but then it would stop me from growing 4-5 others because of the space issues. Same for 'most' oncidium types for me, just too large after a while. As far as type of lights, I'm not sure how large/tall a grow hut may be, so it's hard to really say. What are the dimensions of the grow hut? The cyms like very bright light, so either high wattage CFLs (85WATTS or higher IMO), T5's maybe???, High Pressure Sodium and Metal Halide systems should work. LED's are getting cheaper, but still pretty expensive. Lot's of lighting choices out there today. Bob...See MoreCymbidium Orchids

Comments (14)I think you have misunderstood the notes. Forget about the Phals. Good Cymbidium culture is death to them. Cymbidium will take Winter Night Temps down to about 2C. That is why they are garden plants all year here and sure they need a slight cooling off in Autumn/Winter to flower but many need Summer night temps below about 20C to flower......and there is a nice cold Ocean current flowing along the west coast of the USA to deliver those cool night temps in summer. Maybe it is too late in the year to repot your Cym, you need local advice on that. The Cymbidium experts (I'm not one) repot often and the sequence is a slightly larger pot each time. Too big a pot jump will cause root rot....See MoreLost tag cymbidium orchid
Comments (2)Might be a clone of Cymbidium Golden Elf, but that is a big "might". Tens of Thousands of registered Cymbidium Hybrid orchid names make id's almost impossible....See Morecapcan
