Succulent in a pot w/o drainage holes?

I just bought a tiny succulent from a dollar store and bought a tiny, glazed ceramic cup to place the succulent and the pot came together with it inside. However, its pot is so small and sinks the bottom of the cup. I tried putting something under that to elevate but this time, it looks not so good because there's a very visible gap around between cup and pot.
I did a quick research about if a succulent would do good in a pot w/o drainage holes, and answers varies. Some says just water as regular, wait for a few minutes and drain excess water from the side of pot, it should work totally fine. Others say put some pebbles or activated charcoal under the soil. So, what's your opinion and experiences about that?
