Granite installed today ... your opinions please!
Comments (25)WOW! Thanks to all for the wonderful comments. I'm pleased with my choice, or should I say my DH's choice, which is why I was a bit concerned if everything would blend. I agree once all the finishing touches are complete, most importantly the backsplash, I will be so happy. vampiressm - I wasn't sure about the green either, but made my choice early on, so I stuck with it there really weren't any other colors I really loved. Anyway, i could always change the paint color down the road. beekeeperswife - you're funny! I'm not sure the 700 lbs of granite will be going anywhere. Its starting to grow on me. I'm loving it! debrak2008 - I'm thrilled that you saved my kitchen as an inspiration! Makes me feel real good about my design and choices. and to those who noticed my Roxy girl - she's a sweet dog! She's been a trooper living through our kitchen demo. I'm sure she'll be excitred to have a new eating area. Anyone with backsplash ideas, please keep them coming. I have no idea what to do....See MoreGranite BS Alert: One-Piece (no seam) Granite for L-Shape??
Comments (21)Thanks all, very very helpful info. Boxerpups, special thanks for these great photos, would never guess where the seams are in your counters. If things would work out so well for us, I would prefer they use caution with my handpicked slab and add a seam. You make a very good point about my confidence in the fabricator also. I think that must be the true source of my uneasiness. I do feel they are competent because they give all the right answers to questions (that I learned to ask from this forum), and they are well established in this area, but I just didn't click with the salesman and I only overlooked that because our contractor, who is wonderful, overall likes them. The owner also is great. So every time the salesman tells me something, I don't trust him. So I think what I will do is ask about their ability to hide seams and show them your photos if you don't mind--to give them an idea what our expectations are. Then I can put this to rest and move on. Thanks so much again everyone! And please stay tuned for backsplash questions, that is the next step!!...See MorePics Granite is in - Need some suggestions for BS - Bill
Comments (16)Hi Gayle, I'm glad your granite installation went well. I agree with remodelfla. Actually, I was going to suggest the same thing: picking up the other color in your granite like the gray. I love the jerusalem gold mosaic tile but I think it will blend too much with your cabinets. I'm excited. I ordered my backsplash tile from Sonoma tilemakers. I'm doing a subway as my field tile and accent behind my stove in the tantrum rhomboid shape combination of glass, metal and stone. I hope the percentages of each of the tiles I chose gives me a nice blend. It'll take about 3 to 4 weeks to deliver so I won't have pictures until then....See MoreInstall Sequence-Granite BS or Vent Hood First?
Comments (4)Yup, the wood was mounted, and the tile installed around it. The wood is significantly smaller than the hood, but big enough to cover all of where hood's attachment points are. You would want to scope out where the attachment points on your particular hood are, and make sure the wood piece would be big enough to cover that area. You could then supply the wood to the granite fabricator so that he could plan to cut a hole in the granite to accommodate it. This is just an idea based on what we did....there may be other options out there for you. Hopefully some others will pipe up and share....See Moretownlakecakes
