What gift for toddler with Down Syndrome?
Comments (12)I work with toddlers with Down Syndrome and have for years...here are some suggestions for a toddler around 18 months old... they are learning cause vs effect...that they can make things happen by their actions, so a toy that has buttons that you push and it lights up or plays music... a ball that is brightly colored and about the same size as say a soccer ball...these are at Target or Walmart.. a board book that has REAL pictures with one picture per page...like a FIRST WORDS book... a very easy shape sorter (with a circle, square, triangle...nothing more) a little set of noise makers/musical instruments...drum, maracas, bell, etc. a set of large blocks (Hobby Lobby has had a great set that are foam blocks)...those are great as they begin to learn to stack a riding toy that they can sit in and push along with their feet. Most children who are 18 months with Down's Syndrome are sitting up independently and are working toward walking...so a push walker could be a good toy provided it has a wide base. A narrow push walker would not be a good choice because they tend to lean forward on the handle and it slips out from under them... Kids with Down's Syndrome are such a delight! Have fun! Hope that helps... Capegirl...See MoreToddler named Aldoph Hitler Removed From Home
Comments (12)A friend of mine is named Daniel Boone. One of his best friends is named Mickey... can you guess? Mickey Mouse. They grew up and aren't in a bell tower with a rifle. Often people will not use nicknames when it does a Nick-Knack thing, or they'll use their middle name. I think I would prefer the name Adolph to Etheldred, with which my uncle was plagued all his life. Is Adolph worse than nutcases that name their kids Bristol, Trig, Willow, Track, Piper, or how about Bambi, Summer, Spring, Autumn, Winter, Fall... Gunhild, Fritz, Rainbow, Starlight, Storm, Wolfgang? Sounds like those kids should be taken away from the parents too. I go through the forum and see some of the names people have given their kids and go, well, that kid is in for some hard times... And several of them I really like, but whether I'd subject my kid to those names or not would take some consideration. What's in a name? What was a dignified name years ago now can have a derrogatory influence. A perfectly fine name gets used in a cartoon and people will tease others over it. The parents were supposed to anticipate that too? Of course Prince Harry learned that having a nickname for a best friend can haunt you years later too when people need something to complain about. We don't know the facts in the "Adolph" matter, and I'd be annoyed if they were removed simply for their name, although I will say I think that house is a nuthouse. Nevertheless I don't really know that a NAME constitutes child abuse. It does say something about the parents, but I don't think it's quite approaching abuse. There's so many kids out there with REAL problems, not the I didn't get Coco Puffs as a kid and I got teased.......See MoreFun With a Toddler
Comments (15)Sweet little girl. It's fun age. Enjoy while it lasts. DGD has turned into a 7 year old tweenager. I wouldn't worry about the meatballs being a choking hazard. Actually a four year old is not a toddler. Most four year olds are old enough to play with small items and love them. Soon to be 5 DGS has been building with normal sized Legos since age three. He can do some of the age 8-12 more advanced junior kits with minimal help now. We did the same Lovemrmeway. A huge set of quality rubber (not hollow plastic) pretend foods was one of our best gifts for our grand daughter's second birthday. They stopped playing with them around 4-5 but DD still has them....See MoreToddler update (for GW aunties/uncles)
Comments (55)He is beyond beautiful! If Emmett were to remain an only child rest assured he will be fine. There are many advantages to having a singleton. Statistically, they are often very successful adults. Single children statistically are also emotionally strong, confident and happy. First born and only children have higher IQs. Family resources are stronger. Travel and life opportunities are affordable and thus more readily available. The old stigma about only children being more selfish has been disproven because it turns out all children are actually selfish :). So either way your perfect family ,wether small or one day larger , will always remain a perfect family!...See Moresuero
