Comments (64)Phylhl, Ceramic tile is a relatively maintenance-free product that requires little continuing care beyond regular cleaning. Most cleaning can be done with a damp cloth and a gentle non-acidic soap. More resistant staining such as calcium spotting and soap scum can be handled using specially designed cleaning products such as Miracle Sealants Mira Clean I product. Other manufacturers such as Stone Tech also offer products specially formulated for ceramic tile care. Take care to avoid âÂÂover the counterâ ceramic tile cleaners that contain phosphoric and glycolic acids that could etch some ceramic tile surfaces. Because crackle glazes are prone to absorbing stains, you may want to consider using a penetrating sealer. In areas that experience regular moisture, such as showers, resealing crackle glazes is a necessary maintenance procedure but for a kitchen backsplash, not completely necessary. If you don't seal the tile the crackles will darken over time giving it an antique type look. Some people love this, it is just up to you on what you want to do. Using a sealer does not affect the quality or appearance of the tile, just make sure you don't use too much or the sealer will leave a film on the surface. I would recommend sealing once a year just as you would with your stone counter tops. Thank you again for sharing and I hope this helps! Lindsay...See MoreFinished: thynes' Budget Beach House Kitchen
Comments (37)Just an update: Not exactly BHG or Houzz, but our vacation home is featured in the winter edition of a local home improvement/design magazine, Home & Cabin. The print edition is on local newsstands now, but in time the article and pictures will be posted on their website. I'll provide a link when it appears. For those interested, the magazine website is linked below. It has some nice articles, DIY tips, etc. as well as an archive of some interesting homes and cabins from past issues. Comments (25)The sink did fit within the 24" wide cabinet without sitting on the frame. The sinks rim was about 1" wide, and there was maybe 1/8" gap between the sink and the cabinet on one side, and about 3/8" gap on the other. To mount it under the counter, I made a frame from oak boards, cut small slots in the boards for the mounting brackets the were already on the sink. I then mounted the frame tightly to the bottom of the sink through the sides of the cabinet. Once I had it mounted tightly, I lowered it down, used a clear silicone-like sealant around the rim, and pressed it back tightly into place and reinstalled the screws through the cabinet sides....See MoreKitchen/House Reveal - DIY with Scherr's RTA. Comments (62)I've been waiting for a quiet morning with a cup of coffee to soak in your reveal. WOW!!! I keep getting up to show my husband another set of before & after pictures. There are so many things to comment on. The new exterior is beautiful. The entry area & staircase redesign sets the stage for the rest of this truly lovely transformation. I love, love, love the kitchen table area with the windows, french doors & window seat. When I saw the 3-D pics with the peninsula, I had to go back & locate the peninsula. It blends in perfectly with the eating area. Absolutely love the Costa Esmeralda. I can just imagine you posting your marble tiles with the countertop & asking for advice with many of us saying "too busy & don't do the framed insert above the stove." It's perfect & it's stunning. I love the colors of the glass tiles with the Costa Esmeralda. Big Congratulations! I'm looking forward to the outside pictures & pics of the fireplace built-ins. Step stool storage - genius!...See MoreAnnKH
