Is this bedroom set too massive for my bedroom? (pics!)
Comments (51)Believe it or not, decent looking ceiling fans exist. On every design show I've ever seen they're the first things to be thrown out, but I have them in every bedroom. Mmm slight draft at night without the sound of floor fan... I pspent no fewer than 18 weeks looking (off and on) for a "pretty" one to go in my master. I have lived with a 4 poster bed. My experience - unless you have really high ceilings, and I'm talking like 10 ft, and a sizeable room, it will turn your space into... tiny. Once upon a time in a previous life I thought I had a big bedroom until I put a poster bed in there. I like your computer nook. I always wanted a space like that, which I could separate from the rest of the room with some romantic drapery tied back. I might force that idea on my formal dining room. :) beds/headboards coverin ga window do bother me. I don't like anything to cover a window (couch, table, or otherwise) -- but that's just me. And if it came down to a queen bed, or covering that window, sure - the window would get covered! We have single panels on our two bedroom windows, mostly because they're skinny and it looked silly to me to have two panels. If you need to cover the window, something that seems to help (at least when I've seen it done) is to pull the bed away from the wall a foot or so. Then you can go with two panels, and it looks kind of intentional instead of "didn't have space." Something else to keep in mind with blocking windows -- does the sun come directly in such that it would fade your bedding over time?...See MoreCool or warm color for bedroom?
Comments (44)Yeah! Success! I ended up going with BM Smoke at 75%. BM Silver Gray just looked a bit too cold for me, so I chose Smoke because it had just a little bit of green to warm up the color. Now the pinky tones that sometimes came out of the headboard are just about gone. I will post pics when I get all the pictures hung and everything put back in place. The LRV of Smoke is 56.3. I wonder what the LRV is now that I only used it at 75%? Comparing to the fan deck, the 75% Smoke it a little bit lighter than the 100%, but not even close to as light as the next color up on the strip, Iceberg, which has an LRV of 73.4. I think Smoke is one of the neutral blue/gray/greens. Just about every other color works with it. It seems like more and more designers are using these "neutral blues" as a backdrop that will go with about anything but is so much more interesting that your standard beige. Does anyone have recommendations for sites with great bedding? I really like some of the stuff Dwell does, but nothing they currently have on their site right now would work for me. I really think I would like to use something that has some navy in it, and I would like to add some little pillows with some red or yellow, or even kelly green to spice things up....See MoreUndecided Blue or Cream Bedroom (Pics Please?)
Comments (17)Love all the photos, but I'll second the warning about checking samples of cream in all the light that comes into your room. I painted my dining room a cream color many years ago and the window in that room brought in a pinkish light, reflected off of the brick wall next door. Ew. Dining room walls the color of raw turkey flesh = bad. Very bad. In the next house, I painted the living room cream and was careful to check my samples against the light at every time of day. No raw turkey flesh problems, and I loved the color--I think it's the only room in the house I didn't repaint during our six years there....See MoreNeed Inspiration for Bedroom Wall Art
Comments (56)Something I did in my guest bedroom while waiting for the perfect pieces of art was to get a photo calendar with pictures I like and buy some simple black frames. I had a set of four, looked pretty good. The one I had was Japanese watercolor art. Later, I bought two large beach watercolors. I love the beach and I found having beach pictures in the bedroom very relaxing! I like landscapes, but if you don't, then by all means don't. I had some landscapes in my bedroom, but moody ones. One was a cabin glowing with firelight covered by a huge amount of snow illuminated pink by a sunset. Just the perfect spot I would have liked to be and since the snow made it impossible to get in or out of the place, it just evoked peace and relaxation or me. To a Floridian it might have been a living nightmare, lol. Later it was a little homestead cabin on top of a hill, a woodcut. When I went full on beach in one room, I had the typical tropical desert island scene, which also says relax, no interruptions. Landscapes can be very abstract too, my friend's daughter does very abstract landscapes. I'm not trying to sell her stuff, just including a link because I think she does beautiful work and it's a good example of "out of the box" landscapes. Might be too casual for your taste, but who knows, http://emiliesart.blogspot.com/p/gallery-shop.html I also loved metal wall art, and botanical prints. I would love some kind of sculpture made to look like tree branches, but again, that's just me....See MoreRelated Professionals
