red bud 'Forest Pansy' shriveled leaves
Comments (10)As with Japanese maples it seems people are always having problems with redbuds blighting off from various causes. That may have been what the employees at the nursery there were thinking about when they decided your tree was too wet. The poking around to check inside the ball idea was on target. Trees planted in intact field soil rootballs may have become partly or completely dried out before planting and repel water afterward. Trees planted in undisturbed potting medium often lose water to the surrounding soil, which is usually finer textured than the potting mix and therefore has a greater attraction for water. If part of your redbud is affected only that is a red flag for a disease problem, verticillium wilt in particular being a common bane of redbuds. If the whole thing went crispy or nearly so it had a severe attack of this or something else, or it simply got too dry at the root. Without even seeing pictures all we can do here is guess, likewise if nobody at the nursery was shown samples of affected parts they could only do so much for you. If a chronic or severe issue appears to have developed try local Cooperative Extension for assistance....See MoreJade Tree Shriveling up?
Comments (4)You we're probably right to cut back on watering. You definitely want to vary it by season and not water unless needed. You may consider sticking a wooden chopstick or skewer into the potting medium and checking it before watering. Looks like you may have root rot with the consequent loss of leaves and branches. This seems a bit high up for the blackened parts, but it also looks like you still have plenty of green below that point. If you can, I'd suggest taking a photo that includes the soil line and posting it. Depending on how far gone it is, you may just want to hack it up and wait for the pieces to root. Generally pretty easy to do with jades. The good news is that other than the one weakness of overwatering, they're tough as nails and re-root readily. Regarding the store soil, every time I've let a plant languish in the peat based stuff they come in, I've had problems, especially with succulents. I'd definitely pot into something else, whatever the outcome is here. At a minimum, some new compost or peat based soil heavily amended with perlite or similar (wide variety of options for this, of course, so it bears perusal of threads about potting mix). You might also consider getting it better light if possible, the green growth in the bottom of the picture looks very gangly, suggests it's not getting enough sunlight....See MoreAfrican Milk Tree needs help
Comments (18)I saw this happen to dry hot sunny conditions. I don't think it's fungus however, I see no harm using ornamental spray on it as long as you don't over do it. Mine are starting to cork at the base now. It must be hard as wood, if not, it may be something else....See MoreMini African Violet leaves fold up
Comments (5)Thanks Joanne, I had read somewhere that lighter leaves needs more sunlight, I was given a large AV once that had turned white from the wrong lighting, the woman knew I could take care of it. For the record that was a mess. At first I thought it was diseased so I kept it away from my others and removed all the white leaves and by the time I got to the newest green leaves I had an small AV "tree" with the long leafless stem LOL . Then I figured out it was just a lack of sunlight. I ended up with a tiny top and just rooted it and placed it in the East window with my others.. It was probably the best thing for it. The lighter green of mine made me question it and I just wasn't sure if it was a lighting issue. I can see what you're saying. I've rinsed it and placed it in my northern window (bright, indirect light). Funny how the growing conditions can vary from hybrids. My other 4 minis are all slightly darker in tone and has the heavier fuzz on them. They are already uncurling. Looks like you solved it! Thanks Joanne!...See MoreRelated Professionals
