Heritage Rose Foundation Conference and Newsletter
Comments (6)I'm hearing from others who can't find it, and I'm wondering what's going on; are we not all seeing the same page? When I open the main HRF web page, I see maybe 5-6 inches of header at the top, and then immediately the conference announcement with a photo of students repotting roses, again perhaps 5-6 inches vertically. Then immediately under that is the newsletter, perhaps another 5 inches. As I see it on my screen, one couldn't possibly miss either one, but as I said, I'm hearing this from multiple people. So are y'all seeing a different home page when you go there?...See MoreHeritage Rose Foundation conference
Comments (8)Online AND offline registration forms are now available at the HRF website or the HRF FaceBook page (search "Heritage Rose Foundation". I hope to have the fall 2013 newsletter emailed to the membership in the next few days. If you're not a current member and would like a copy, please email me and I'll get you one. It will contain the full schedule, with speaker bios, conference logistics, etc. I'm not sure why, but that web page seems to be a bit 'sticky,' in that if you've been there before, you may get the old, non-updated page. If that seems to be the case (e.g., no downloadable registration form), try refreshing the page in your browser. Here is a link that might be useful: HRF website This post was edited by malcolm_manners on Sat, Aug 24, 13 at 9:56...See MoreHeritage Rose Foundation Newsletter!
Comments (6)Thanks! Looking forward to seeing you in Florida. I enjoyed each and every article. (Though I am still anxiously awaiting the dates of the conference at Mottisfont next June. I am sure you are, too! The frequent flyer miles I hope to use for this trip expire pretty soon, so a timely announcement is of some urgency to me. Nothing we can do but be patient.) Comments (16)How exciting for you all and I do wish I could be there, although in my case it wouldn't be only for the meetings, but as an occasional student of the Civil War, Fredericksburg was a major battle and the 154th anniversary of it comes up in just a few days time incidentally. Now you may not necessarily be interested in any of this, but a main segment of this battle took place on the ridges just west of town called 'Marye's Heights'.. where Confederates were dug in, especially behind a low wall where there is a sunken road. This wall might be visible from the town I think. The Union army made vain attempts at taking it but with tragic results - so many were slaughtered in the attempt that it was regarded as sheer ''butchery''... A Union defeat, President Lincoln was much blamed and he wrote ''If there is a hell, I am in it''... It was also noted for the bravery of a Confederate sergeant called Richard Kirkland, who left the wall to give water and aid to injured and dying Union men lying on the field a few yards in front.. this story may be embellished somewhat, there are reports of more than one man giving aid, but nonetheless I think there is a statue to this gentleman somewhere in the town... Ironically, just 5 months later they were all at it again at the same place, albeit a lesser battle as the main action then was at nearby Chancellorsville... I would really have to go pay my respects... I would also visit the little town of Falmouth, which is a suburb just across the Rappahannock river. When under British rule this was named after the little town of Falmouth, Cornwall, England - where I was born as a matter of fact... which also sits on a river, so presumably someone in the 1700's thought it reminded them of it.. how quaint.. I think this is where the Belmont House is located that is already on your itinerary, and now houses a fabulous art museum so I read.. Whatever, do have a lovely time....See Morehartwoodroses
