FedEx for winter shipping
Comments (19)The only problem I've had with FEDex is when Val sent me a plant from Chicago during a really cold spell. She shipped it desk to desk, so presumably I'd have to pick it up at the FEDex office rather than have it driving around in a cold truck. I tracked the orchid. I saw that it had been delivered to the Fedex dist. place. I drove down there. No plant. Yep, they had loaded it on a truck and taken it to my house, despite the fact that it wasn't supposed to be delivered to my house.... While I was at the office, a half an hour away...my orchid was sitting in my unheated entryway...in 15 degree weather.... It survived. The heat packs were long cold...and I was just a tad ripped....See MoreMad at Fedex
Comments (11)I'm sorry this happened and left you frustrated; I'm glad your package arrived and you were able to find it. The driver doesn't know what is in your package; they just deliver them. I don't know about Express but Ground drivers are instructed to NOT leave packages on the front porch or any where easily seen from the street. If the package was left at your front door and stolen, then you'd be in a different pickle. You could even leave special instructions to leave it at the front door and they won't. Each driver is responsible for the package and they must pay out of their pocket for mis-delivered packages. During this busy season, some drivers may not be attempting delivery at front doors and going right to the back door instead. Their steps are precious when there are literally hundreds of stops to make in their day. The driver probably did the best they could do to get the package to you in a not-so-visible location. There's no scanner code for "tossed into garden" so delivered to back door made the most sense for the driver to code as delivered and somewhat identify where it was left. UPS and USPS will but will leave stuff at the front door because they have different rules. If you notice news stories about packages being stolen, they are mostly UPS since they leave them at the front door. You can call to complain; that is your right. My suggestion for future deliveries that are important is to request the shipper send with signature required. Then watch the tracking and be home when the site says it's out for delivery. Unless you pay extra for guaranteed delivery time, the delivery time will be determined by the driver's day....See MoreUPS - 2 missed deliveries from Amazon
Comments (16)Amazon knows the value of repeat customers. They know that if they claim it's not their problem, people will be less inclined to buy again from them. They don't want customers to have to deal with the post office because it leaves a negative impression about the whole transaction in their mind and that affects business. They have the mentality that it is their responsibility to get the item to the customer in perfect condition, no matter what it takes. I'm having a similar problem with some items I bought from another company that never showed up. The seller is ignoring me, the post office says it was delivered and i'm out $166. I only wish I had ordered through Amazon because I know I'd have my replacement already. But I know for a fact I will NEVER order from this company again because of their attitude towards the whole thing. While Amazon is not obligated to reship it, it's in their best interest. I know I have personally purchased thousands of dollars of items from Amazon, including Prime membership, because they are such a pleasure to work with. I made a mistake once in not canceling a recurring subscription that I meant to, and when I called to see my options, they not only refunded my money but let me keep the item that was sent to me. Even though it was my fault, they still bent over backwards to make me happy and it was a profitable decision for them because I have had many transactions since with absolutely no problems. And THAT is the difference between good customer service and "sorry, but it's not my problem" mentalities....See MoreUSPS 'Uninformed Delivery'
