What would you change about this layout?
Comments (19)Dunno if you want another pair. These are variations of your plan with bonus expenses. For traffic reasons, I'd more the doorway to the dining room up by the cleanup area and I'd for sure move the door to the backyard - either by cutting a new door at the edge of the family room or replacing a window with a door in either the family room or dining room. Sometimes I don't think more cabinets = more capability to cook efficiently. I'm not so sure that making the kitchen a lot bigger is a good answer here. So this shows two variations of the dining room wall and the stair wall and the island. By closing off the existing door to the dining room and replacing the exterior door with a window, you could use a round table in the nook area (with or without a banquette). The island can be longer than it was. The blue markings show a 12" (could be 14") deep pantry on the dining room wall, the oven slides over, the island becomes a little shorter than the gray version and I moved the cooktop onto the stair wall - giving you an island that only has a prep sink on it. The gray version has a very long island, shown with cook top and prep sink. Unfortunately, that comes combined with less defined pantry space. But you get a really long back counter that could have every countertop appliance ever made. On both versions, the stair wall cabinet run is a little shorter and ends in a tall cabinet that faces the family room - meant either for decorative items (tall, open cabinet about 30" long and wall cabinet depth - glass doors and lights) books (30" open cabinet, no doors, wall depth) or storage of child foods (30" closed cabinet) with cereal, snacks, etc. Aside from flattening the cleanup run, I took the wall cabinet off between the sink and family room - shelves holding everyday dishes would be much lighter visually and leave the cleanup person connected to family room activity. The remaining wall cabinet is a little deeper than normal (13-15" deep) to accommodate glassware and service dishes that you may want out of sight....See MoreWould you change who you are, for someone not willing to change?
Comments (23)Well, I would consider trying to change things about myself to a certain extent. I agree with what some of the other posters said. To maintain a healthy, long term relationship with someone, change is often necessary-change in behavior in certain areas as somebody said. And many people try to improve themselves in life anyway. But I would not try to change my basic character or personality. And the part of the sentence that says "for someone not willing to change" is a huge red flag to me. I wouldn't try to change myself ONLY to hang on to someone that was not willing to change or improve himself....See MoreWhat would you change about this midcentury modern living room?
Comments (25)Some thoughts: --Leave the sofa where it is for your TV watching--this type of setup. Perhaps you intended your credenza to go in the nook with TV over it? If so, good idea. --Place your floor lamp in the corner to the right of the window. --Bring the chair closer to become part of the sofa area that will be reachable when you get a coffee table. --Think about getting a narrow-sh MCM chest for next to the front door for keys, gloves, etc. with a round mirror over it. Craigslist is good for this, credenzas, and coffee tables, usually for no more $$$ than brand new. If you are going brand new, then West Elm carries a lot of this style. --Get a great painting for over the fireplace. --...See MoreWhat would you change about this cioppinno recipe
Comments (11)Is this new territory? Have you tried any seafood stew or chowder recipes? I've spent my entire life coastal from NewOrleans to Newfoundland Canada. I could make that recipe tonight... all from my freezer. Even having access to fresh. We have a fishing boat and always freezer our excess catch after a couple meals fresh. Your standard grocery puts out thawed fish and shrimp. Our crap closest grocery we only use for emergencies like a bag of ice😂, has a frozen seafood section with sustainable wild caught whole shrimp. You should look at a few other recipes. Ina has one and many others. I'm very picky about clams and mussels so I would leave them out. Might want to simplify. Same flavors but less excess in the seafood dept. I make my own stock but the bottles clam juice is really good. I don't care for oregano with seafood but do use summer savory and thyme. We also prefer a less punch in the tomato dept. I suppose I'm leaning more towards a Bouillabaisse though the are very similar. I just call it seafood stew. (avoids pesky recipe police) I use leek, celery, shallot at the onset...finish with some shaved fennel as a garnish....some type of fennel salad on the side depending on the season. We love fennel but some do not. Prefer fennel fresh over cooked. ^^not at all suggesting you take any of my advice. Just what I would do considering our preferences. Clams look really good and fresh a few times a year. Only then do I build a meal around them. At the moment I have salmon, shrimp, scallops, halibut, cod, and a couple lobster tails in my freezer.......See MoreJennifer Matherne
