Hi Cori Ann. Me again. :-) Yes, it is huge, healthy and vigorous. I constantly prune a lot whenever I pick flowers for the vase. Otherwise it will easily swallow the roses next to it. The canes also become quite thick very fast. That being said, it blooms almost non - stop and sets nice fertile hips. Unfortunately the beetles are also quite fond of its taste. We are on holiday at present so I do not have any photos with me but you can expect six to eight feet if left to its own devices.

When Anja was still here she recommended this rose to me. It has thick petals, nice fragrance and I remember the color as grayish-bluish purple... But size-wise. No help here... At the time I put my heart on another rose, Perfumery.

I got one from Palatine last yr. It's in a 16" square pot right now. It has only gotten about 2.5ft tall so far. But I think it's going to be a wide-grower, so make sure you give it plenty of room! The couple of blooms I got last yr were pretty huge. They opened up to about 5" as I recall. Very lovely lavender color. It's a lot bluer than the ones they show in that link, Cori Ann. The color they show is waaay more pink than it is in real life. I'm anxious to see what it does this yr.

Mine is probably going to stay in it's pulp pot for at least a couple of months as I play around with different placement areas in my yard. I have a couple of difficult areas that I want to test it in... testing it for heat, afternoon shade, northwest facing fence, etc.

While I like the charity idea behind naming this rose Le Petit Prince... I will probably end up calling it either Arctic Ice or Blue Emotion because I just don't think it's going to be petite!

Ok so I decided on putting it against a fence on a trellis with Nahema. I can train the two laterally over a few fence panels so I think it will be ok... it could end up being a tangled mess! It's near my lavender and pink row of roses though so at least the colors will be coordinated. ;-)

It's a little over 4 feet so far I think. Maybe 5 on that one tall cane. Arctic Ice aka Le Petite Prince is in the middle here...on the left of the trellis. Nahema on the right. Old Town Novato and some purple bicolor sweet peas are to the further left. WWII Memorial Rose has a bloom on the far left in the shot too.

It's got a pretty little red spot in the middle of the stamens. I don't really have a lot say about it yet.... not sure how it will hold up in the heat, but the foliage is very healthy!

Wow! Thank you so much for the photos LG! I'm looking forward to my blooms becoming fuller like those. What an impressive sized rose with a lot of sturdiness... I can see this rose is going to grow into more of a self supporting tree! I need to move it... I probably have it too close to Nahema. Hmm. I think I can move it over a few feet to where Old Town Novato and the purple sweet peas are. That circular trellis/obelisk there is kind of like a tree cage so I think it would do well for Arctic Ice. Old Town Novato needs to be moved to a more sheltered spot anyways. The blooms of Old Town Novato are gorgeous, but don't like too much heat and don't like any wind. I want to move it to a spot where the blooms can last and be enjoyed more. Hmm. I guess I have some work to do!

Oops! only just noticed this post.. I don't grow it myself, but a nearby nursery had one growing outside in their display gardens, so I posted a few pics of it on HMF. The water tank its growing in front of would be about 7/8 ft high- anyways, it was BIG.. The bush (grafted) itself was only about two or so years old I think- wouldnt have been that old as it was being marketed as a new release that year.

Pity, they removed it about 6 months after that; I've noticed they tend to change the display areas around a lot.

I cant remember it having that strong a fragrance, although it did smell nice. (but then my nose can be wonky at times).

Hi Cori - Here's a very fragrant lavender rose that holds up well in heat. I discovered Lagerfeld at the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden. The garden is a very large, exposed area that appears to get all day sun. Most of the roses were fried but Lagerfeld was doing great, retained fragrance, and has good reviews from others regarding heat and vase life. I may get it for next year!

I wonder if maybe mine can work where it's at if I train it more laterally. I think, based on the descriptions from Australia and South Africa, I'm going to move it in the fall after watching it over the rest of spring and summer...unless I get a sudden burst of energy and conviction and decide to do it before then.

Ann I have admired Lagerfield. Now to hear it does well in the heat... well darn I don't really need to get any more roses! ;-) I will put it on the list for the future though. I may get it next year too!

My Arctic Ice (aka Le Petite Prince) is not handling dry heat well in my yard. I was excited to see a fuller, more double bloom starting to open this morning, but when I got home it was already fried. Others next to it are handling the same heat better (Nahema, WWII Memorial, Old Town Novato, Love Song). This spot doesn't even get that much radiant heat since it's closer to a wooden fence than a stone wall. Anyone know if it gets more heat tolerant (to dry heat) over time? Now that I'm seeing this... I think I need to just watch it for a while before I decide if/where to move it (if at all).

Old Town Novato is younger, but is actually frying less (I thought it might be frying more before --- but Arctic Ice is definitely crispier). :-(
