New fiddle leaf fig (ficus lyrata) may have scales. Can you confirm?

Help! I finally invested in buying a large fiddle leaf fig, about 6ft tall. I brought it home yesterday and as I was cleaning the leaves, I noticed at base of the branches near the top growth may have scales. They are little dark spots that are bumps. When I try to scape it off with my fingernails, I can, but end up taking off some of the tree branch too, leaving light green flesh.

I'm a newbie, so have no idea how to tell for sure. Or is it just part of the tree? My other smaller fiddle leaf fig that I've had for a year, doesn't seem to have any of those marks. If it is scales, I'd want to return it since I just bought it yesterday.

Thanks.
