Hi , I would really like to purchase a rhynchostylis gigantea , dendrobium preciosum orchid.
Can anyone help me find a place where I can purchase one. I am in
California. Thanks.

This is what I always recommend. Google where you live and put Orchid Society. Example: San Diego Orchid Society, Sacramento Orchid Society.

See when they meet (usually once a month). Attend the meeting. Its free. You will meet people growing orchids in your area. They usually have vendors at their meetings where you can buy orchids so much cheaper than online. Many people bring divisions of their plants in and either give them away free or raffle them off.

You will learn info on those orchids and how they grow in your area. It is so much cheaper to buy through Orchid Societies. Most have a yearly show which has lots of Vendors from all over the Country. They discount and you save on shipping.

Even if no one grows the plants you are looking for you will get the names of nurseries in your area where you can purchase them and save on shipping and handling.

Plus, it is fun and you will meet people and see what they are growing. Eveyone loves to talk orchids and give advise. Its a wonderful time and such a wealth of knowledge.

If you have a healthy plant which won't flower, you need to research your plant and learn what you need to do. Phals need good light, need a cool down in the fall. Please join your local Orchid Society or learn online how to grow this plant. Your leaves look very dark which suggests the plant is not getting enough light. It needs about 6 weeks of cooler temps in the fall to initiate spikes. Give it stronger light and put it in a cool room. Use lamps if you don't have a window in the cooler room. You want at least a 15 degree temp drop over 6 weeks to spur the plant to flower. Light and temps are your problem. Jane

Hi Bob and everyone else, Thank you for your tips and regards! I contacted the buyer who was responsible and offered to ship another orchid and asked me to dispose it to prevent spreading of the mealie bugs....and spray all of my other plants with neem oil, which I am able to buy today.... As a preventive, I sprayed everything with soapy solution since the orchid was next to all my other plants for almost a week before I saw the white fuzzy thing and mealy bugs crawling......feel bad of disposing any plants.....orchids seem so fragile......and of course my lack of experience at dealing with any of these.... But thank you to everyone for the wealth of knowledge and support!!!!

You might want to take a trip to Banjong Orchids. 17720 SW 218 ST in Homestead. I got these from them at the Fairchild Orchid Festival back in May(?). I think they were $10 a set, the one on the left had 1 smaller one, and the one on the right had 3 smaller ones. They were imported from somewhere in Asia. I don't have their #, but you may have a hard time talking to them unless you speak Thai, but you may get lucky and get someone who speaks english well enough. But they may be "what are you talking about" because I think they specialize in just orchids, and not orchid supplies. They may have just ordered the pots for the festival. I don't know about the quality. As you can see, some parts are lighter then other parts, and they feel a little rough, but I dont know anything about clay pots. I haven't touched these since I bought them.

Ariel, I found a great place recommended by another patron at Lowe's while we were both admiring some of their orchids. It is called Everlast Orchids and it is wholesale/retail. It is a bit of a hike it is a few miles north of 52 on US41. This is Masaryktown I believe. Mostly Phals for as far as the eye can see and some Cymbidiums as well. Also some amazing cut orchids for centerpieces. The Phals were only $5 and were the size of the $20 orchids at the box stores. Amazing and your mouth will hit the floor but you really need to make it worth your while and take the drive when you need to buy a few or more. Good Luck...Joe.
