Hi! I have a couple of aloe plants I purchased last year. At first they were doing so-so, then having one in the window - sunlight from about 10am to sunset - it did really well. Produced lots of pups.....not sure what happened but the other one never quite "blossomed" as well. It's always been a bit scraggly. I have them both in plastic pots right now - with large drainage holes. I used the cactus soil (sometime last year) and they seemed to both start doing well. I took them both away from the window because at one point, they started looking like they were burning. So. The one with the pups is doing well....or at least better than the scraggly one. The scraggly one I have about 3-4 feet from the sunny window. It still looks very limp, some brownish looking leaves. One or 2 dried right up, but the others mushy. None of the leaves have shown any signs of wilting - they actually have always looked more plump than not. BUT, they are droopy, and going on the browish side. I have let the soil get more dry than wet (mainly to get rid of the stupid pesky teeny black flies that always seem to arrive when I bring home a new plant from the store...yes....I am a plantaholic)....so. My question.....should I move both aloe plants back to the window? Leave where they are? Repot? I have a picture of the scraggly one, but not of the pup one. Oh, there is a vent right under the window that the air conditioning blows through - more away from the window than towards it. :( This is the scraggly one Closer pic of scraggly in the spot it shares with the other plants Help!!!! Thank you all for your help! I do have it in a window that gets alot of afternoon sun. I live in upstate NY area so it does stay indoors except for in the summer, I put it out on the deck when I'm home and the sun is shining. The root looked a little exposed so I set it in a little deeper in the pot and put more cactus soil in to help. I have had this plant for over two years and it hasn't grown at all but never looked brown, dried out and (dying looking) until I transplanted it. That's why I went to the experts for help!:) I hope it is just adjusting to it's new pot and will bounce back. As for the soil, shouldn't it be in a cactus potting soil? That is what I read online I thought?? I would definately switch out the soil if it will be happier in something else. Any more tips would be great and I thank you for all of your help!! So i had this aloe plant for couple years now. and about 2 weeks ago the stem just cracked and it was laying on its side.. So i went looking on online to see how to re root it and repot it. So first thing i do is cut it and it also had the root bumps still on it. So i left it sit a few days on top of dirt. And a day ago i found it was mushy were i cut it and it just fallen off.. So i tried cutting it today again and i put it in the pot laying on top and left it by the window. Well i just checked now and i found the bottom soft again and has brown... So pretty much im not sure what i suppose to do to save it?? Here's pics as you can see the top is pretty nice. really would like to save it but each time i cut it just gets soft and im running out of room to cut anymore..

You can try cutting off the bottom leaves and repotting but I think you'll eventually have the same problem again. Only indirect light isn't enough. The Euphorbia next to your Aloe probably needs more sunlight, too. If you move them to a sunnier spot then gradually increase the sunlight. Too much sun too fast can cause plants to sunburn.
