I m looking 4 a desktop with >=8 GB RAM, wifi & graphic card of 2GB

basically for my son to play games.

Will it be cheaper to build it myself or buy a preassembled
and if latter is your answer which one is best price wise. Thanks

You'll probably get a better answer if you post what you're willing to spend. Most preassembled I've seen lately cater to the lower common denominators and that probably wouldn't include a 2GB graphic card. That's not to say it's not available, but you might not find it on the shelf at a local retailer.

1. That's the big question: How Much do you want to spend?
2. What Game/Games is he looking on playing?
3. What Processor is Required for that game/games?
4. How much RAM is Required, I assume it's 8GB (Minimum)?
5. I'm assuming that you need a 2GB Video Card for this game, right?
6. Need to figure out what size Power Supply is needed and then buy from a reputable Manufacturer!
For a Gaming Computer, I would recommend having one built or building it yourself. This way you can get exactly what you want, not the cheap part most Prefabs bring to the table. Although these days the major computer manufacturers do offer choices as to some of the components, but not all! For a Gaming Computer, don't skimp on the Power Supply!

BTW, if he is Gaming online against others, he'll most likely want to play with a LAN Connection (Local Area Network) and not WiFi Connection. The LAN Connection will be much faster and will supply the speed at a more even rate than the WiFi Connection. For example: My Desktop LAN Connection got a Download Speed of 73.60 and an Upload Speed of 75.80. My Laptop with a WiFi Connection got a 38.60 Download Speed and a 48.90 Upload Speed. My Laptop has Better specs than my Desktop, but it really doesn't matter when talking about WiFi or LAN. If I would hook my Laptop up with a wired LAN Connection, I'd get right around the same speeds as my Desktop did.

you should be able to right click on the folder itself and select delete, you should be able to drag and drop items to and from the flash drive. The most important thing is to always remember never ever remove anything like a flash drive until you have clicked the remove safely icon down in your systray and select which item you want to disconnect from your pc and wait till it says it is safe to remove. Not doing that can really mess stuff up. I have no idea why it would change the order unless did it perhaps put them in alphabetical order? if you right click start then explore and open your explorer tree find the drive letter assigned to the flash drive then from the right pane you should be able to drag and drop anything into that drive and in the same manner remove stuff from that drive. Or go to my computer find that drive select it and view what is on it and manipulate the data. When you select a picture on the flash drive and right click on it do you not have options listed there as to how you want it to open?

on track here with grandms, I would not go with any emachine especially not a refurbished one. Nor would I go with Vista. For the money you can get brand new bundle machine with windows 7 home premium 64 bit. Look at walmart.com, look at sams and costco. Best buy has some very decent prices too I would not use their repair dept. from the sounds of the offers I think I would steer away from that place, you can do much better. look at some of these AMD Phenom II 521 Dual-Core processor If you have a monitor you want to us you can get one with out a monitor also or just buy the monitor separately they are getting pretty cheap. AMD Athlon II X2 AMD Athlon II 220 AMD Dual-Core E-350 processor this is an ACER quad core for under $400! AMD Athlon II X4 Quad-Core 645 processor this ACER actually has windows 7 Professional installed and is under $300 Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5800 processor so you see those prices they are quoting for old outdated Vista refurbs is just not good at all. I have purchased several pc's from walmart they have a great return policy and you can take them to the local store for return.

Many thanks for your thoughtful responses. There is no Agere ORiNOCO IEEE; so that settles the matter convincingly and conclusively. I do tend to get attached to the familiar; once I have become familiar with them. I have got a "Montgomery Ward's" radiogram that works. I have some vinyl LP records that I play on it. There is a "Kodak" Instamatic 304 camera with a (dead) flash cube. I had tons of fun with an "Endeavor" Fujifilm camera. I often remark that I grew up in the dark age - when we used a developer tank in a dark room. I occasionally use a microscope that I acquired during my student days. But nothing can compare to the "VIC 20" - the first computer I ever owned. A friend taught me the rudiments of BASIC programming and my best effort was a program to troubleshoot lawn problems. (I am an Agriculturist by training and experience). I passed the VIC on to my wife's nephew. Having said all that, can you guess how many times I have been married? All the best for the season. Ron.

Most gamers want or need a Quad core processor, so you may want to keep that in mind. Must it be new or reconditioned, only a tower or the works? search online plenty of good deals or at least do your research online first.

It used to be that building your own machine, especially for gaming, was frequently the cheaper solution. That's changed a bit but it's still very much a function of your requirements. Frankly 8G of RAM and a 2G VRAM is pretty modest by today's standards. The Radeon R9 390 is available with 16G of memory. The odds are pretty good that you don't need that card but many modestly priced video cards come with 4G of memory.

The starting point is budget and then work back to see what your money buys you.

I agree with Mike, the computer I built for myself over 8 years ago had 3.0GHz. Quad Core Processor, 8GB RAM and a 2GB Video Card! I still have that computer and it's capable of running a lot, but it surely won't play the games of today! My 5 year old Laptop has 8GB RAM and the Laptop I'm currently running (about 2-3yrs. old) has 12GB RAM.
