Comments (5)I got my PJP II (Weeks) at a local nursery. I believe Weeks grows for JP. It came in a mini pot and has done very well. I have fewer roses and I like to choose the bush that I am going to buy. I bought three bare root by mail last year. They were disappointing when they arrived, but two have done well. I shovel pruned Double Delight....See MoreNew Day pics and question about super-dense new growth on PJPII
Comments (10)I had 'New Day' at the old house and regret leaving it behind. It was an excellent cut flower as well as garden rose. It is a Kordes so is somewhat more cold-hardy than a lot of yellow HTs. My new PJPII has a lot of that growth as well. It is a very vigorous cultivar, full of energy and vitality. As it has gotten taller the growth has become very normal looking....See MoreSomething is wrong with my PJPII
Comments (15)Sophia, sorry for the lack of explanation to my comment last night, but was very low on battery. Cabbage moths look like white butterflies with a black spot at the bottom of their wings. They lay their eggs on the leaves and buds of host plants. The eggs are about 1-2mm, creamy white and are quite visible. When the larvae hatch, they are small green caterpillars that either roll themselves into the leaves and start feasting, or if they are on the buds, they chew their way into the centre, thereby ruining the flower. I do not spray, so I just rub the eggs off as I see them and squish any caterpillars between my fingers ( gloves on, of course :-) ). Other moths and butterflies do the same thing, so it is just a matter of checking on the roses every day. I believe that some gardeners use Confidor as a selective, systemic spray which does not harm beneficial insects....See MorePJPII on Sunday morning
Comments (17)Katalea, I can't comment on chilli thrips. The blue cups did catch thrips, as you can see from the picture. It was shocking to see so many thrips on the cups and still have thrips ruining my blooms. I spray with Orthene or Merit. The month of June I will spray every 3-5 days the tops (buds). Spidermites can become a problem with all the insecticide usage...a balancing act. Next year I plan on using the cups sooner....See More- 7 years ago
