How to stay organized when everyone else isn't.
Comments (18)I think you can make some distinctions between "organizing" and simple daily cleanup that you might do as part of living in a family--doing the dishes, putting away laundry and so forth. --I know they're related in the sense that underlying order helps with maintenance and cleanup, but that's something for your own home; really, you don't need to clean out the attic in your parents' home or throw out their plastic containers. So it is definitely not healthy going into drawers and closets in attempt to "organize"--these actions are part of the parent-parent-child power struggle and you are seeing yourself in the wrong role. You might try a family meeting, but that could be hard without a neutral party such as a family counselor--it would be again, the 21-yr old being the family/marriage counselor. It could be done if you were able to use it simply to state your discomfort and what you feel comfortable doing vs. not, and to ASK for their support. You wouldn't be able to lay down any ultimatums, such as "you have to..." It sounds like you are already at a point at which you would need to have conversation with your dad alone, to some extent, in that you have identified him as a driving force requesting you to fix your mother--if you can't talk with your dad or if he doesn't "get it" in conversation with you alone, he won't get it in the presence of your mother. But, see, you would have to really WANT to stop being in the middle in order to propose to your father, here, I can do this and this, but I would prefer it if you would not ask or expect me to that and that. You could stay there if somehow you are able to change YOURSELF--to develop some serenity and distance from these struggles and just smile and fix an occasional meal, do daily and weekly chores as a good citizen of the family, and, if you really like organizing, graciously do so whenever your mother gives you a target drawer, etc (assuming she doesn't later accuse you of doing it wrong). Some people can manage a year like that. But, another approach as mentioned is to get out your pencil and paper and calculuate your way into moving out and continuing school on your own even if at a slower pace. You would be the one to know whether your father would be willing to discuss tuition or a loan if you move out. But, it can be done with or without their financial support. You could do either approach, and it's not completely wrong to stay to get tuition if you can manage all these other emotions and situations, but you can't really stay and stew about why your parents won't change. It isn't really good for your siblings to watch that dynamic, either, because it certainly won't be a successful strategy for them to follow as they get older. One of the reasons why protecting your siblings isn't a helpful rationale is that, under that reasoning, you would have to stay there until they all leave home....See MoreNew Office - I want to stay organized!
Comments (5)When I moved to a new office my husband pointed out that the computer hutch and the U shaped office especially with light colored furniture is a secretarial layout, and not a current one either. He redesigned my layout so I have a large desk and a side table for my computer, & printer. His simple change of my not being surrounded by hutch, desk, etc. gives a real professional look to my office. In back of my desk is a series of 2 drawer wood lateral files which are counter height so I can put a plant there but also current files. I see a lot of clients so I needed space for their chairs. My clients can look out the window in back of me. I promise to take photos, but we moved into our house today, and I couldn't find anything until morning. So we started with: whats in your office that could go elsewhere>? Are you storing closed files? supplies, a printer (if a network is available) What do you have that your assistant could have besides paperwork. He helped me utilize my assistant of 23 years better and redesigned her workspace. Ladynimue's suggestions about really paying attention to how you work best (and put the times down as well) are great. My observation of accts offices is they have every file in the building on their floor. I once saw a cartoon that said "the acctg dept is limited to having 100 files on the floor next to each desk" You are an executive--they don't expect you to use the same furniture--ask very matter of factly what your budget is for new furniture, or better yet maybe they have some furniture stored someplace. Never hurts to ask. The other thing I would do is take a look at every acctg persons office, or read the furniture mags until you see a layout that you might like. Maybe a friend can point you in a new direction also. I was really stubborn about wanting everything the way I had it before--because everyting was in reach & I complained that when I was on the phone that was a problem. We got wireless headsets. problem solved. My husband is not an office designer--he runs his own company. His layout is very different. He has a rolltop desk that faces out so all you see is the back of the desk, and not the papers, inside. He has a work area to the left and to the right. They aren't connected. He has a couch and coffee table in his office....See Morestaying organized
Comments (7)keepem: I used navy blue tubular stretch jersey and just slipped it over her- gathering it at the neck. I can pin into the jersey and even into the duct tape filled with batting. and dee the fusible fleece helps give the apron body and you dont have small items get lost. I went wild with the work apron thing and even have one for cleaning house... but that one I bought from the Clean Team. I volunteer in a library part time and made a work apron for there too to hold scissors pencils cards tape etc. I think one might be a great gift for a preschool or kindergarten teacher. hmmm. maybe I will make some for selling. How should I price them?...See MoreHELP Please for Container Gardening Organically with Pro Mix BX
Comments (2)I like ProMix a lot. But you might be overthinking this, Lainey. In terms of necessity, the only thing you may HAVE to do for a small portion of the plants is mix in more perlite. I have grown everything you listed except the zucchini and canteloupe, and virtually all of them in plain ProMix. You can definitely use the worm castings, though. I currently using the ProBlend Grow you bought and have the Bloom, too. I also use Ca-Mg with it. But I bought these because I wanted Foliage Pro now and couldn't find it locally quickly. If you haven't opened them, I would exchange for Foliage Pro. Al (tapla) on this forum has written a lot about it and overall, I think it's really solid barring using 15 bottles to make your own. :) After using a good potting soil, amended or not, it's primarily what you and nature will do that will help it thrive or die. (WATER, NUTRIENTS OR SUN?) And as for your vermiculite, I personally hate the stuff and find no use for it at all. Depending on your highs, it might be a bit too warm for the leafy stuff except in rrally bright shade with slow growth. I know in my area of CA, I cannot grow lettuce except in early spring or really late fall. Good luck!!...See Moreanitaladyrose
