Help me choose Quartz countertop
Comments (21)Ok guys I'm back looking at counter tops again and would appreciate your feedback. The left you've seen a million times London Sky and the right Viatera Calacutta which of these two so you like? I don't know why but the larger vein Quartz is growing on me :)here is the slab they pulled for me today of the Calacutta: I also went to another place and looked at the Neolith porcelain which I can't stop thinking about because it's really really pretty...but I'm so worried about having issues either with fabrication, install or use :/ I've read every Neolith thread which some sound risky and watched demo videos which some look impressive. i love the polished but no way to the potential scratching so was considering the silk finish. While I was still in the showroom area discussing the Neolith with one of the salesman a couple came in and looked at the large island sample of Neolith and I overheard the woman say to her DH what's this it looks like plastic. I don't think the salesman heard her as he continued to brief me but that took the wind out of my sail a bit when she said that :( We proceeded to the warehouse where he showed me the slabs. My opinion...still so pretty :) Thoughts?...See MoreKitchen help- choosing quartz
Comments (4)We have Silestone Calcutta Gold. Very little gold. Our story: I saw this counter at a contractor’s customers home while looking at carpenters work. We found out where they bought the slab. We took a photo and they recognized exactly what it was. We ordered it. This is for a second home and DH was on site and available to see the slab. They told him not to bother, that he would not know what he was looking at and they literally install this counter daily. I would never recommend this but in our case they did a really good job. It’s easy to clean. Next up we will be installing g a Sonoma Tile Maker’s gray tile. A small piece could tell you how white it will probably be. we brought in a door and the sales rep felt it would look good with our white. The veins are a bit darker in person, but still subtle. We don’t like the dramatic dark vein that some quartz has. But that is a matter of taste....See MoreQuartz Veining not lined up
Comments (26)You are not understanding how waterfalls work. To get the edge seams of the waterfall to line up on that big monster, they have to be cut out of the same piece of stone. Just like you fold a piece of paper. The pattern will flow continuously on that cut. There is no one piece of stone 15’ long. Multiple pieces must be used. With the size of the island + 2 3’ waterfalls needing 15’ of stone, exceeding the size of one slab of stone, a second slab was needed. That’s where the seam in the middle comes from. The choice of how to do waterfalls on an island that large is to have the top portion be without seams, and have 2 mismatched seams at the waterfall edges. Thats the budget, lets use up all the scrap pieces choice. Which, surprisingly, the builder didn’t choose. Or, to seam match the waterfalls from 1 single slab each, and have the mismatch of the 2 slabs in the middle. The builder, who OWNS the house, chose the seam in the middle. The seams in any quartz with movement is never ever guaranteed to match when it comes from 2 separate slabs of quartz. That is as good as that type of seam gets....See MoreHelp Choosing Quartz Countertops!!!!
