yungacense X mandonii
Comments (26)Ma chère amie Béatrice, Thank you so much for posting the photos. The sight filled my heart with joy! In March of 2013, when I saw your feminine and curvaceous H. yungacense, I thought that she was the perfect mate for my masculine, but complimentarily colored H. mandonii. And so, the dream of a long distance union between our soon to become fiancées was born. It was a great pleasure to collaborate with you to bring the hope of creating beautiful children to fruition. Now, after years of your wonderful and patient nurturing, the dream has been realized. The bébé is spectacular! There is no doubt in my mind that your gorgeous seedling is the offspring of our deux amants. To complete the family story, here is a photo of the proud papa. Toutes mes félicitations! Comments (36)The second scape... together with the two fully mature flowers of the first scape, one floret self-pollinated, the other pollinated from "PapDon2". Btw, self pollination of one floret of the first-blooming sibling was not successful, which was to be expected in a DIPloid, but the ovary of the other, after pollination from "Charisma" (TET) is swelling'! ------------------------------------------------------------ Here...See MoreIs this Benica x papilio???
Comments (20)Thanks everyone for your thoughts!! Here is another shot that might show the center of the flower more clearly. The second flower is out and there is really no difference from the first so I guess this is what she is going to be!! There is another bud emerging, the first time I've ever had two scapes on a maiden bloom!! That's something I guess! I will go through all my pollen from last year and gather any papilio pollen and mix it together hoping to find a few grains that are still viable to make a back cross. If it doesn't take that might tell me something. I neglected to freeze any so who knows. Donna...See MoreUnknown Cybister x Papilio
Comments (16)Thanks, Fred. The growing area is made up of an eBay-bought dog run frame, with greenhouse film over the roof. It works well in my situation as I only need to protect the plants from the worst of the summer heat and the occasional rainy period. I noticed that over the last few years we had weeks of rain around the flowering period, and this made a real mess and ruined the newly emerging flower spikes as well as causing havoc with red blotch. So disappointing. This is a good cheap solution for me. I'll keep an eye on my "mini" cybister and see what happens next year. Small is still good, it was only that the expectation was so different!...See Moreagapanthe64
