Duchesse de Brabant from Chamblee's
Comments (21)Muscovyduckling, I did get a Souvenir de la Malmaison climber, and have great hope it'll be a beautiful rose. I got it bare root at the same time I got my bare root Austins, but it hasn't started blooming yet. If it does well, it should be the perfect color for the fountain trellis. Rosefolly, you're absolutely right. I'm judging a rose -- Crepuscule -- that I've never seen except in pictures. I'm excited to have it, and hope I fall head over heels once I see it blooming. Ingrid, you were the one who inspired me to get Duchesse de Brabant, and I'm so grateful. Will you be getting your new one now or in autumn? Mine is doing well so far, and I hope yours does too. Molineux, this little Duchesse has been blooming continuously since I received it, and the blooms are elegant deep cups -- just lovely. All the roses in this new garden are being trialed, and those that do best will get a permanent spot, with multiples of each of the few selected. Duchesse is certainly in the running, and your description of the shrub is a big help. Mendocino rose, I feel so fortunate to be engulfed in such incredible beauty. I would never even have known about many of these roses, except for the great help I got on this forum. Do you think Heritage will do well in a hot climate? I don't need the trellis to be smothered in roses. A simple tracery with a few roses would be quite lovely. Some people say heritage blows quickly; do you find that to be the case? People also say that about Claire Austin, but mine almost always has blooms, and they last long enough to keep me happy. Michaelg, I wish I was still in the rust belt, enjoying the ocean breezes and dozing off to the hypnotic repetitive crashing waves. No, the issue will be whether Heritage performs in dry heat if given good soil and water. jannike...See MoreRoses from Chamblees!
Comments (19)Michaela, I am almost embarrassed to tell you how many I got. Please don't report me to the rose police, or my husband, for that matter. These were kind of hard to hide due to how large they were. I was expecting bands and got three and one gallon pots, oops! i got Belinda's dream, carding mill, evelyn (for the smell), plum perfect, wild blue yonder, enchanted autumn, blue for you, delightful Phyllis, gruss an Aachen, 2 cream verandas, sunny sky, savannah, dark desire, alnwick rose, first crush, and sombreuill. I debated and debated about Jude the obscure, but read mixed reviews, so I chose Evelyn cause I wanted a really fragrant one. You will have to let me know about him cause I may want him for next year. Haha! I live in hot and humid Louisiana. All of my current roses are trying to bloom but the rain is making them ball instead! Next week the rain is predicted to stop so I will post pics with drier weather. I'm hoping all the roses can take the rain. So excited to see blooms on the new ones! I know I'm supposed to pinch off, but want to see if they are who they say they are! Ha! This is such a new and exciting hobby for me! I am thrilled!...See MorePlum Perfect - A Good Rose?
Comments (12)I think 'Plum Perfect' is the prettiest purple of the purple roses I have. I ordered from Chamblees and got three in the pot and 2 'Lavender Veranda's in a pot and also 2 'Poseidon's in one pot. So I have more purple roses than I know what to do with as I also got 'Love Song' and 'Magenta'. Here are some pictures of Plum Perfect, I now have two this size as I gave one to a neighbor out of Chamblee's gallon. I have also put photos of Love Song and Lavender Veranda for comparison. It is hard to get the richness of Plum Perfect's real plum color. Plum Perfect: Lavender Veranda: Love Song: Another rose that has purple tones that is just gorgeous, blooms in flushes spread apart but last for a long time is 'Soeur Emmanuelle'. It is very upright like as a Hybrid Tea:...See MoreKordes Plum Perfect growth habit
Comments (56)@chris2486, I'm glad to see you on the forum still. Your PP has me drooling! That is probably the best whole-bush photo I've seen of it. Feel free to share *more* images of your plants! LOL. I've become a *huge* fan of the Kordes' roses, own-root, which you introduced over here, and Plum Perfect has shown incredible promise in my no-spray garden its first year. (DLEverette, in a few years, your Kordes roses might well look that nice. Imagine what Pink Rose's will probably look like this spring.) I do hope that Ball/Star follows through with the same sort of selection criteria. If Carmen Würth lives up to the claims of Kordes-rosen.de and is selected for introduction this fall, I'll be first in line!...See MoreSara-Ann Z6B OK
