Should I Worry About My Meyer Lemon Tree?
Comments (10)Thank you hoosierquilt, but the potting mix is a citrus mix and drains extremely well. There is no problem with draining. Water runs right through it and out the bottom. I live near the coast. Some mornings are foggy, and as I said temperatures have been cool as of late and not getting much sun so the soil in all my plants is not drying at all. You can even see the moisture on the leaves. These pictures were taken early in the morning. Also, the roots are not sitting in water. The pot is elevated above the saucer so the pot (nor the tree) is even touching the saucer underneath. Both those issues are not the problem. I'm hoping it's just sunlight and once the sun starts shifting further north in a few weeks it will be fine. Thanks again. Comments (2)Here in California, I have one meyer out in full sun and another one under the tree shaded during midday. The one in full sun grew bigger and has a lot more fruit than the one under the partial shade of ornamental tree. BTW, our summer regularly gets to 112 deg F and very dry dessicating air. All of my citruses can take it....See MoreNew Meyer lemon tree repotting question
Comments (5)"Oh and one more thing!! Did you make sure you filled in the soil around ALL the roots? I usually use a small stick or pencil, and wiggle it between the roots as I watch the soil fall even deeper into the pot. Then I pressure water into the pot into the roots as even more of this loose, bigger particle mix fills in the spaces between the roots..Make sure, ok..You do not want some roots dying of thirst while others are watered.." The above is Meyermikes recent advice to me about transplanting my new meyer lemon. I also know from reading through other threads that it is also very important to remove all the old potting mix from the roots. I removed what I could with my hands and then sprayed off the rest in my kitchen sink. Regarding cutting the roots, I didn't do it and my plant is perfectly happy in its new home. Someone else would have to advise you about that. Good luck with your new plant....See MoreQuestions about birds as first Meyer lemon ripens
Comments (2)Some may have other information but I have always been comfortable eating fruit that was not fermented. Citrus has sections so the bird may have caused some damage to one or two sections but I'm guessing the damage goes little deeper than the rind. I say pick your first lemon, slice off just the skin at the deepest damaged place to better determine how deep the damage is and enjoy the rest! I also have bird problems with my Ponderosa lemons. Boat-tail grackles come in about this time of year and they don't peck holes in the peel but they scrape off the green zest. The lemons still fill out and mature but they are deformed because of the damage to the outter skin. I haven't found any ways to keep the grackles at bay....See MoreSammers510
