Sounds like an interesting night. When my kids were younger, probably 8 & 10, I took them to a chair reading of a play. It was The Twits by Roald Dahl. It was wonderful. I've often wondered why more weren't offered.

but really, how cool a night was that! And quick thinking on their part, to change to a chair reading. I've been to a couple of operas done in concert style, no sets, costumes, or staging/choreography. I'm not a huge opera fan, and the concert style seemed to make it more accessible for me, the music and acting and more engaged interaction among the performers carried it.

What an unusual experience, from start to finish! I think it would be fascinating to see how the actors rehearse and do reads. At least they didn't turn up the lights and tell you to go home!

Recently, DH and I were at a local theater seeing a production with a small-ish cast. One of the leads had a cold and just couldn't sing, and smack in the middle of a song, just said, 'Sorry, I've got nothing to work with!', and they sent us home.

They did offer a free drink at the bar and free tickets for the same show another night, or another show if we liked.

We picked another show and that's coming up soon, so, win-win!

I performed in the pit orchestra in high school and college. My favorite nights were always the ones that went astray.

Groundhog Day is one of my favorite movies. Another movie I can watch with DD (6 yo) is Heavyweights which is a live action Disney movie about kids going to a fat camp with a deranged Ben Stiller.

BTW, I love, love Groundhog Day and have watched it so many times.

Our local theater also did a production of Freaky Friday before it heads to B-way. It was really good with fun, catchy songs. The story was a little different, but the theme, of course, the same.

I'd love to know how it's doing and if it's going to make it on B-way.

My sister went last night too! I haven't spoken to her yet but now I want to hear.

Good grief! Was "I Got You Babe" playing on the clock radio when you woke up? I never heard of such a thing, but it actually sounds like fun.

It was fun. I'd said to the kids in advance ... this might be a little different, you are seeing their first preview, there could be a snafu or two. Indeed. I think the audience really appreciated the actors' efforts. Oh yeah, and we were all there gratis ( I still don't get that).

I decided to "reinvest" my refund in tickets to see Bette Midler in Hello Dolly. Loved coming across that on UHF when I was a kid!

Iowa, that movie sounds funny! I will look for it. BTW the stage version is more adult.

I absolutely adore David Hyde Pierce. And other than Carol Channing, I can't imagine a better Dolly than Bette.

mimipadv I think that would be better than the production of Messiah I went to see where the lead soprano had a terrible cold and was off key allllll night. Painful!

Hello Dolly - I'd love to see that again! Haven't seen it since the laserdisc years!

I love unexpected wacky happenings! DHD is one of our holiday movies we watch every year.
