I have no problem with this plant. Draining but fertile soil. Organic fertilizer from time to time. Plants grown in a greenhouse seem to be more fragile than plants grown outdoors.

I have all of mine living in pure pumice and not one but TWO CC that I had died very quickly after I got them (the first one literally a week later and the second lasted maybe a month). Never had a plant die that quickly. I treated them the same as all of my other plants, just didn't put them directly under my grow lights as to not burn them.

Didn't see your last sentence asking about if you should try it on your other echeveria. I say go ahead and try, why not? I am very happy with all of mine in pumice and don't have to worry about them in the summer when it rains.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm growing outdoors, but we get no summer rain, none from April to November....I will try a few this way. We also have more mold/rot issues than average, very wet mild winters and cool ocean air in the evenings in summer, which may account for plants from a dry greenhouse dying within a few weeks of arriving here....

No problems with mine either, but they are indoors as no way would they grow outside here in the U.K. They grow offsets regularly and are in an ordinary free draining mix of c/s mix, grit, perlite and small grade bark chips in a south facing window year round. No rot or dying off whatsoever.

It is not really common to find it online. If it is, you should search eBay, though prices are usually extremely high. You can also check Altman's, as they have stock here and there. Etsy also has it occasionally.

Online is not a really great place to find them, as they tend to be fragile after shipment.

I have never grown one but they need a lot of light. Only the green parts produce food for the plant so they have to work overtime. Its my opinion that people tend to baby them more because 1. they are expensive and 2. they are fragile. So they protect them from bright light and water too much. Pumice will help for those with a heavy watering can.

They are expensive because they're rare. They're rare because they're "fragile". They're "fragile" because they are loved to death. And they are loved to death because they're expensive. It's a vicious cycle.

I probably wouldn't do well with it, I have bought 3 E. chroma and they all died before they established theirselves . Carousel is definitely beautiful though, I'd love to see pics

Just looked for a pic to show you, guess what, I've got none! Will take one tomorrow as it's night time here now.

...and here are mine growing indoors. The two large rosettes have a bit of a stalk now as they're three years old or so from pups so I haven't recut them yet. May do that later on spring to lower them down.

Yes, that is a spectacular plant. I've always liked that look, especially also enjoy aeonium Starburst, but Carousel is lovely. I'd like to find one too.
