Ceramic tile above quartz backsplash?

I've seen other posts saying to remove the quartz strip. But my 1960s Spanish colonial bath is small. Vanity 5' along two walls. I was thinking of adding some Malibu tile and trim along the back and sides but don't want to start up from flat counter as it will be hidden by toiletries you never see in Houzz photos. The stuff of real life. This tile is pricey for me but worth it

I don't know how to deal with that 1" edge of quartz. Feels like an awkward transition??
