I can't find my old post--layout help, please!!
Comments (18)Glad you figured it out. I think your hand drawings are really good, btw. Above are the minimum recommended clearances for seating. If this is a high traffic corridor, I'd make it even wider than the minimum. Is the X the dishwasher? Do you plan a prep sink in your island? If you are, I think your plan looks pretty good but in order to have room for more than one person prepping/cooking, you'd want 48" aisles between the island and cooking wall. This means you'd need a narrower island. Since people really don't chat well together if they are all lined up in a row like a lunch counter, you might consider moving the seating down the island a bit with two on the side with the current seating and one at the end. This allows for better chatting there and people sitting are still close enough to chat with the cook. And it moves them down from a prep sink placed at the other end of the island so they're not likely to get sprayed. I think I would get tired of prepping at the clean-up sink as you would need to carry things too far to the cooktop and it's just adding a lot of extra steps. So, really, consider that prep sink. From the drawings, I think you are creating a very pleasing visual space but just a few tweaks would make it more functional....See MoreDay 11: My House in August " Shelfie"
Comments (26)We're still in the midst of moving in and unpacking. My sweet hubby unpacked a lot of boxes yesterday and did his own arrangement on the shelves of the huge dining room built-in incorporating a lot of things that were displayed in small groups in various places in our old house. Bless his heart, it looks like a showcase in an antique mall. I know I want to do it much differently, but have no idea where to begin. I'll probably add a lot of books and be back here for advice on this one. The second pic is my little collection of 1939 New York World's Fair collectibles. Something about that fair just speaks to me. I'm drawn to its vision of the future, and it's the year my parents were born. There are also a few other World's Fair/Expo pieces thrown in for good measure. Also in that pic a peek at the built-in bookshelves in my office. They'll only hold fairly short books (must be all anyone had in 1954). I've got to go through all the book boxes this weekend and figure out where it all goes....See MoreI can't find my post here
Comments (33)I guess I really thought a message between people was ok. ..and wouldn't be read by others, hopefully Rather disturbing realizations all around, aren't they? And beyond hypocritical if true to object to some advertising when promotional spam posts are now allowed, in addition to the purpose of Houzz being to sell things. I don't think it's the advertising, though. I think it's the person and the blog post being entirely too on the nose....See MoreOt - My feelings about huge old threads being revived.
Comments (12)Huge old threads don't bother me at all. But it is interesting that that is one of your pet peeves. I am sure everyone has different things that bother them and that's well and good. The thing that bothers me about some old threads is that the pictures can be inaccessible. Much of the information and people's opinions remain timeless. My pet peeve has to do with helpmefind. To me it is kind of like shouting for one person to post a huge number of pictures of one rose. Even if they're beautiful pictures, I have to wade through one person's huge number of pictures to get to anyone else's. There is a lot of value in seeing how a rose does for a number of different people. I value the good, bad, and the ugly pics. I have seen up to 57 pictures by one person and many are almost identical. So I think a little restraint would be helpful. A little editing. Ten pictures would be a lot but 57?...See Morerebeccamomof123
