Comments (13)Lucy Alot of great ideas for you! But I have the perfect solution - box it up & send it to me! lol! I have none & it's so cute! Can you start them from cuttings - like the Brugs? Are they easy to root? Can they be grown in pots? What colors do they come in? Too many questions, huh? I've always liked the looks of them - but just never got around to trying any. Wow! Not another addiction! Just what I need! I just received my 'Pagoda Flower' cuttings today! My friend also sent me a 'Plumeria Pudica' & a bundle of 'Solanum Wendlandii' (aka Giant Potato Vine) cuttings - which have the most beautiful bluish flowers! As they say - too many pans in the fire, or something like that! lol! Mike...See MoreRoyal Hawaiian Purple or Red Buttons (?)
Comments (29)My HD or Lowes and Walmarts never ever have them here either. Everybody always posts how they find them there so I always look, ....but nope. However, a few years back the Stater Bros. grocery stores kept getting several varieties in. Haven't seen any lately though. A nursery here USED to have big specimens of several kinds that came in regularly, but this year they said they no longer carry them as the supplier moved. Bummer!...See MoreMy Purple Lodge finally bloomed!
Comments (32)Ben, I think you're right about the source of PL in this country. Mine came from Burling, and I reached out to her earlier this summer to ask about its origin. She said her plant came from Ludwig's daughter: "A few years ago, she came to the States and went in partnership with another rose grower in Arizona. His name was Taylor Francis. Their partnership ended and she was looking to start a nursery in Oregon. She stop by my nursery and she gave me some cuttings, and one of the roses was Purple Lodge. Whether it was the correct one or not, I really can't tell you." I've wondered whether the cutting Burling received was accidentally mislabeled, and it might have been a similar named rose, e.g., Purple Breeze (see link below), which looks very similär to the PL circulating here in the States. Whatever it is, it's a remarkably dark rose, repeats well and has never shown any sign of disease in my garden. I do wish we could get our hands on the PL rose they're growing in Europe, though! https://www.nirpinternational.com/en/garden-rose/209/PURPLEBREEZE...See MoreRouge Royale, final word in yet?
Comments (38)Ravishing of course ! I'm on your tail Diane, going through the Roses Forum posts , drinking my tea in bed. i couldn't resist the topic but should rest my eyes in awhile. My squat little RR after I trimmed it down for Winter is nestled into leaves. It's the first year I have tried a leaf blanket instead of just hilling the roses with extra dirt. I hope it won't create a big soggy mess in Spring. i thought the leaves could then be worked into the dirt for added nourishment. It may start forest of ginkgo trees. My RR got some yucky leaves in Fall; after the worst leaves were plucked, and a few milk showers, it has perfect leaves again. I'm learning what these roses like. For anyone considering Rouge Royale, you won't believe your eyes, the bloom is outrageous . I totally agree with you Diane for a vase rose it's hard to beat even by any Austin. My RR baby came from Northland Rosarium - I love their nursery....See Moregreenman28 NorCal 7b/8a
