This is my dream! Or an upstairs set and a downstairs set...that would be amazing. Personally, I'd go with another full size for a few reasons. I'm an artist and a mom so most of my clothes are washable, not dry-clean or hand wash. If I had more delicates, I might feel differently. Also, I don't like to do laundry very often and I have plenty of clothes to get me through between washes. Our housekeeper does the kids' clothes and bedding, etc, but DH and I are weird about our clothes - we like to do it ourselves but only once a week or even less, only when there is a full load or 2 ready to go. So I think it really depends on your personal habits. If you would rather do smaller loads more often then a compact set makes sense. It may also depend on how much space you're willing to give up and where/how you like to do your folding If you think you'll use this washer/dryer set to to big loads, then make sure you have a pleasant place to fold nearby, otherwise just put in a mini set and stick to small loads in the closet, big ones in the laundry room.

Well, I'd get a Miele set. There are 2 sizes but both are small, about 24" wide. One is deeper and called Little Giant. The regular sized Miele takes queen sized bedding, and the Little Giant takes king sized bedding. You will not get a better machine.

As part of a new build, we are installing a stackable (full-size) in our master closet which is on the main floor. Kids' bedrooms and main laundry room are upstairs. My thinking is that when we are empty nesters the closet w/d will become our main laundry set and so it should be a full-size. Also, I want the sets in the closet and the main laundry room to be the same model so everyone in the family can use them with ease.

I'm going to swim against the stream: If I had a washer/dryer set right there in my washer/dryer, I think I'd do multiple small loads ... so I think I'd go for the smaller unit.

Of course, this would probably mean doing sheets and towels in the main laundry room.

"Mini" no. Compact like the Miele, Bosch, Asko or Electrolux (all have a 240v dryer) yes.

Thanks, Practigal, you are right that "compact" is the correct term to use for European W/D set. These are the standard sized sets over there. Practigal has the compact Electorlux that looks very nice.

Thanks! This is a huge help! I think the ctr. Just needs to know for voltage but I will double check...I looked up the Miele and there seems to be a wide price differential. I'll have to do more research as I get closer. It'll be so nice to take my clothes off to shower and throw them in the washer!

If you're vertically challenged, do not get a full size stackable. Too hard to see the top dials. Ask me how I know.

Are you on a concrete slab. That is best for front loaders. If you are not, you need to be sure your joist system is beefed up, and placing the set along a load bearing wall is recommended for Miele. There is a lot of energy to spin these puppies. Also the new Miele sets are condensing dryers now. Don't need venting. The Electorlux compact is a condensing dryer too. People like condensing dryers. They are reportedly gentler on the clothes. They can add warmth to the room, but I don't know how much. they will need to be set up to drain into the drain, or emptied by hand. Most get it set up to auto drain along with the washer.

Full size ... big enough to wash a set of king size sheets and all the pillowcases. Big enough to wash all those clothes you brought back from the ski trip or beach weekend at once.

You can always use the "small" setting on a full size washer, but you can't turn a mini into a full-size.

Standard sizes are cheaper, too.
