blue pearl granite hard on the eyes? With white Silgranite sink?
Comments (18)I have had Blue Pearl granite in my kitchen for about 5 years and I absolutely love it. My kitchen is sunny, and the ever-changing features of this granite continually amaze me at different times of day and in various weather conditions. It looks different on cloudy days than it does when the sun is bright. Sometimes there are little fiery copper-ish specks in it that you normally don't see. On some days the blue leaps out at you while on other days it looks more gray-ish. It's beautiful, and I love it even more today than I did when I first got it. We have a stainless steel sink, which looks good with it, btw. I have a set of blue Le Crueset cookware, with matching blue utensil crocks, sugar bowl, tea kettle, spoon rest, etc, that look really striking with the Blue Pearl granite. One other great thing about this granite is that it doesn't show waterspots or spills. I have to remind myself to wipe the counters, because the busy-ness of the flecks kinda camouflages crumbs and little food spills that occur while cooking. I'm not sure I'd want Blue Pearl in a kitchen that DIDN'T get a lot of light, because you'd miss a lot of the beauty that comes out in it as sunlight plays across the surface. I do a lot of cooking, and I have yet to become so mesmerized by the granite that I've burned the soup, so I say "Go for it!"...See MorePicking granite for white cabinets
Comments (2)I have the same situation and just posted my first Q about it, in fact (wood floor over slate dilemma). In my case, not only is there the potential issue of different woods, but, in addition, I can't lay wood on my stone floor without creating a two inch step up to my dining room - unless I do a very costly demolition job on the stone. Anyway, my idea for cabinet color and granite is very similar to yours. In addition to the creamy cabinets, I'm also considering a darker cherry stained island (not 100% sure of this yet). However, if wood floors are a no go, I am thinking about doing the giallo veneziano, santa cecelia or something similar, on both the perimeter and the island. I think that would pull everything (both cabinets and floors) together and makes for a very nice tone on tone look. I saw a couple of similar kltchens in a magazine recently that I'm using for inspiration ( the most frustrating thing about those magazines, though, is when you have a photo of a gorgeous granite and the description reads "granite" rather than revealing which one - don't you hate that?). Anyway, the photos showed the floor tiles in medium beige, not too light or too dark. Cabinets were to the ceiling, so really very little dry wall was exposed, but what there was was done either in a bone (the darker cream cabinets with brown glaze) or taupe (the lighter cream) color, so both continued on with the tone on tone theme, here. Backsplashes were very close to the color of the cabinets in both cases, with or without accents (mosaic tile for ex.) under the hood. Hope this helps - it sounds like we are headed in similar directions....See MoreBacksplash Help - Alaska White Granite, Off White Cabinets
Comments (20)Oh my gosh! I'm reading all of your posts right now to my Hubby so he'll know I'm NOT the only one who can't make a decision on a backsplash! LOL I have the white Alaska granite countertops as well. It has been well over a year and I still can't decide! And although I do love them, it's such a hard decision to match them with a BS! I'm so happy I came across all of your posts. I know your struggles! However, hopefully, by now you have found the perfect backsplash for your kitchen countertops! Please post pictures if you have time. I'd really enjoy seeing some of the choices you have made. Comments (14)Hi, ohassan. I found your question and read it..can't answer in a detailed way just yet-it's been a hard day's night(c) I'll need to re-read it and think tomorrow but just something that popped out to me so to say, in your inspiration pics..they're all very sleek, modern or contemporary looking kitchens. is it the style you go for? If yes-I feel you're freer with colors, since the sleekness of other elements and simplicity of details allows you that. What's the style? what the doors will be? what the flooring will be? Laminate that's often used in modern kitchens is more pure of a color than painted wood..I'm not great in explaining why, but that's what makes it easier to use sometimes even two or three laminates together, and add something natural and textured like stained wood..is it something that you had in mind? Another question-are you sure you want white? Because I hear from you some hesitation..or I may be wrong. If you're willing to share some pics, whether of your plan, or materials that you've chosen already, or the room in question-that would help. There are common answers, but they probably will prove more specific and useful when the question gives more specifics as well. Every home is different, every space is different..every person who asks is different too. So. I don't want to hijack this thread..if you're comfortable sharing more details and visuals on Dilemma's side(which I frankly find too big and hectic), I'll go there and look and try to think some more.. I bet other posters will find it helpful too. There were some nice answers there, but I looked very fast through them. Or you can cross post here also if you wish. (when I say I'll write something fast it still takes half a page..sorry about that))...See Moregeoffrey_b
