Maybe I can help. Our house was built in 1962 and, interestingly enough, we are just finishing a master bath with exactly the same dimensions as yours and pretty much the same layout. All that remains to be done is for the shower door to be hung; that's another story. As I said, our bath is 7 feet long and a smidge under 7 1/2 feet wide. We also have a window over the toilet, but our wall with the vanity is on an interior wall, so no window there. The layout for our bathroom is exactly what you have in your plans, with a couple of minor differences. Our shower is 48" long, but only about 32" wide. We put a half wall between the shower and the toilet with a clear shower enclosure on the front of the shower and above the half wall. That provides a little privacy for the toilet area and prevents it being seen from the bedroom while maintaining the open feeling of the clear shower enclosure. We put crown molding all around the bathroom since the shower enclosure doesn't go all the way to the ceiling and so we weren't concerned about the humidity and the wood. The shower enclosure is tiled to the bottom of the crown molding and there is a bullnose decorative tile with a black pencil accent tile right below it that runs through the shower and extends all the way around the bathroom at wainscot height. We used a white subway tile for the shower enclosure and below the bullnose tile around the remainder of the bathroom. The subway tile and decorative tile form the backsplash above the vanity. Our plumbing for the shower is also in the wall between the bathroom and the bedroom. We used a black and white porcelain basketweave tile for the floor, both in the shower and in the remainder of the bathroom. The black accent tile on the walls and the black "dot" in the floor relate well to each other. Since we don't have the issue of the window over the vanity, we put two sinks in ours and there is plenty of room for them. The countertop doesn't feel crowded at all. As far as the grout goes, we used white epoxy grout (I don't know the brand) on the walls, and a dark gray on the floor. I've been using the bathroom, other than the shower, for a couple of months now, and the floor is pristine. While white grout was also recommended for the floor, I was too skeptical for that. The dark gray actually adds some definition to the tile pattern and there is no worry about the grout discoloring. Our vanity is 21" deep which is one reason our shower is narrower. We used standard cabinetry and the cost was relatively reasonable. It was amazing how much this small room cost! Our bathroom door does swing into the bathroom and into the shower. The only place we could find for towel bars was on the back of the door so we had to be really careful that the height of the towel bars kept them from colliding with the handle to the shower door. We also put a stop on the door so that it doesn't swing into the shower. It isn't ideal but the only way it would work for us. I don't yet have pictures; I'll try to post some in the next couple of days. Before the renovation, we had a bathtub and a small linen closet on the wall which now contains the vanity and the vanity was where the shower now is. We, thankfully, didn't need to move the toilet. I hope this has been helpful. While the bathroom is cozy, my husband and I don't generally use it at the same time. But if we did, there really is room for both of us with the double vanity. Linen needs to go somewhere. What kind of linen? If it is just towels they could go in the vanity drawers. But I'd take a linen closet over a makeup vanity any day :) You can have a top drawer for your makeup at the sink. But then I never spend more then a few minutes on makeup. I prefer to stand. I have never had the setup to sit down, who knows maybe I'd like it. Put all drawers in your sink vanity, or if there is a door at the sink, be sure to add pullouts some how. This way it will keep you organized and prevent you from having to crawl on the floor to get those lost things in the back of the vanity cupboard. Pocket door at the toilet area to recess into the wall on the left tub side. This will open up the toilet and allow access with if someone falls in the toilet room. The way you have it the door would not open. If you want to know how I know this let me know. Can be a frightful situation. Sometimes people go to the toilet when they aren't feeling well and passing out with the door closed could be disastrous. Anyway pocket door on that small room would be perfect. Looks like you have a window next to the toilet. I know several people who love their windows next to the toilet. Gives them something to look at. My carpenter built his home with his toilet across from a window for this the view. When I planned my shower I made sure there was access to the rough-ins from the back side of the shower. Can you do that? Dry wall would be an easy fix compared to ripping out tile and fixing. I don't know much about exhaust fans, but I put 2 in my remodel that joined in the attic to exit the roof as one. My bathroom is 8.5'x 10'. I love the 2 exhaust vents, one at the shower and the other by the toilet. There are lights within each vent as well. Electric, where will your switches go? You have room near the vanity. What switches will you need? I have a heating light in the ceiling and floor heating. Both of these switches are at one side of my room along with a ceiling light. The other side of the room as another switch to the same ceiling light, a switch for my LED toe kick light, and last, the switch to the exhaust fan. My vanity light is at my vanity along with some outlets. I also put outlets in my vanity to hold my hair dryer. You could put an outlet in your linen closet too if needed. Put an outlet by the toilet in case you get one of those advanced toilet seats (which I love Btw). I have more electrical work in my bathroom for my stacked washer/dryer and ironing station. Just look at your layout carefully for switches and locations for outlets. The entry door to the bathroom takes up a lot of room too. the area at the latching side looks almost too small to accommodate switches and casework. If you put another pocket door to recess into the vanity wall, you could utilize that larger wall for switches. The tub may be cramping the vanity, but I am not to sure about tubs. It looks pretty wide at 4 feet. Is it really that wide? and do you need it that wide? Where will your Heating/AC enter the room? I put a toe kick heating vent in my vanity and am very happy with it. I added a bit of insulation on top of the kit to keep the vanity from getting hot (if I remember correctly, so many details. It could be that I didn't because it wouldn't fit the space).

Hi, I just designed my new home and my master bath has a walk-in shower and we don't use a door of anykind. I love it. If your plan was mine I would consider a few changes. It would then look much like mine. Proposed changes: 1) Put your shower entry across from stool. I don't think you'll want it right by the entry. Mine is right across from the stool. 2) Put fan/heater/light fairly close to the opening. 3) Put a shower light in 4)I would consider eliminating the half walls and put a tower of storage cab. on each side of vanity. I went with just one sink because we never seem to have to be in at sink at same time and if we do we share!! I store all my towels, etc. in them. I put an outlet in each and that is where the hair blower, etc. can be plugged in behind the scenes and works out so nice. Code also required one on the outside. 5) I also put a corner little bench in mine for shaving legs, etc. Put some little corner shelves in as well with tiles cut diagonally. You could easily do that same thing. I also put a smaller soaker tub in. Is your closet for linens or clothes? I put my walk-in closet as a separate room. I am very happy with how it turned out. Not a designer, (but have had many positive comments) in my next life!! Good luck on your adventure!

My thought is that the second one does not allow much wall space in the bedroom for furniture or a tv if you want one. Will the walk in closet accommodate your dressers and chests, or take the place of those pieces? I do see what you mean about no place to hang towels near the sinks, which is problematic. As far as a tub goes, it's up to you whether you want one or not. Is there another tub in the house? Kids need tubs. The more I look at the choices, the more I like #2 for practicality, as long as you consider your need for furniture in the bedroom.
