Right sized lighting in dining room - open floor plan

Hello,

I am planning a 28' x 17' room in our new home that will serve as both living room and dining room. The ceilings will be 15'. My traditional dining room table sits 6 (8 with leaf) and is not bulky. Cannot post photo as table is currently in storage :(

My lighting of choice is a chandelier. My instinct is that a larger (32" diameter) fixture would be great in the space. Would a chandelier that size be too large? The lighting in the adjacent living room will consist of sconces and table/floor lamps (no overhead fixture).

When I look at the dining room photos here on houzz and elsewhere, I have trouble guessing the size of the lighting in relation to the table and room.

Can anyone share if there is a rule of thumb for sizing when selecting lighting?

Thanks so much!

ps: we are breaking ground in the next two weeks!
