Backsplash to warm up white-ish cabs & granite
Comments (48)omg -- I am so embarrassed. I can't believe it's been almost three years. I know it's ridiculous, veevs, but I still have not put in a backsplash! I collected so many sample tiles (all of which are still sitting on my laundry room counter), and then I just got overwhelmed! And then tired. And then bored. And then we moved on to other major house projects (front entry, portico, landscaping, etc.) and other decorating (window treatments, etc.). And then I just became very zen about the whole thing and decided not to stress about it, to enjoy the paint for now, and to just pick out other kitchen things first (eg, got the bamboo shades budge suggested). In fact, it's funny that you're reviving this thread now, as I await delivery of the chandelier that I finally chose for over the island. I'm hoping that getting that up next week will provide a sudden epiphany re the backsplash. I hope to return to that project this fall/winter. Of course, I'm still happy to hear suggestions and welcome any photos! Sorry the thread was such a tease...but there will be a happy ending one day! In the meantime ... enjoy your kitchen and the many delicious meals you will share with your family ... and tell them all just to be zen :)...See Moredark backsplash in white kitchen?
Comments (5)kitchenkelly .. your kitchen is gorgeous and the dark color sure works! teeka, I also have light colored cabinets (pistachio green and cream color) w/bordeaux granite. I sweated over backsplash color/design (does anyone not?:) Here's how I made the final decision: I looked at my favorite china and based on that, chose to go w/handmade Portuguese tile (expensive ... but probably not as expensive as it seems). I did 5 variegated shades of white subway tile w/ borders with colors that picked up one of the aubergine colors in the granite the green to compliment the cabinetry - this a very pretty yellow wash in the background of the border tile. The mural behind the range is multi-colored and the design is copied from an antique (17th century) Dutch tile -- it has greens, yellow, pinks and blues - it's really lovely - flowers and greens and a little yellow bird in the middle of it all (I ordered from Solar antique tiles in NYC). It's almost complete and I simply love it! My point is not ness. to go w/Solar (although Pedro is a genius) .. but, to take something you love and use everyday (like your china) and let that be your color guide. Maybe you want to consider subway tiles w/a simple band of color (golden?) border to bring it all together? Think of a basketweave china plate w/a simple gold rim / both elements compliment each other. Also, look at the sky high expensive stuff and get inspired. Country floors, imo, has gorgeous tile ... but is so far over the top in price that it's ridiculous. Use them for ideas, not purchase. Mainly, have fun and don't settle for anything that isn't beautiful....See MoreClueless! help kitchen countertop + backsplash to match dark cabinets
Comments (27)Original Poster Update I've finally made a decision on cashmere carrara quartz countertop (MSI) and Masia Gris Claro tiles. I'm hesitant about the cashmere carrara because the photos I have seen vary so much and the sample is so small... If anyone has some real-life photos of the cashmere carrara countertop, I'd really love to see them. They are coming to do the templates in two days so I'd still have time to change my mind. Thanks!...See MoreHow to pick Kitchen Backsplash for dark cabinet and dark countertop?
Comments (15)If you do a search on Houzz for "cherry cabinets dark countertops" many examples pop up. Create a "Kitchen Wood Cabinets" Ideabook with those features to get ideas about lighting, possibly changing out one or two cabinet fronts with glass ones, new countertops. Many pros on Houzz recommend living in a new house for a year before making major changes. Maybe by then the mania for all white kitchens will die down and you'll put your household budget to uses other than a major renovation. You have a very nice kitchen already. Here's just one of many kitchens in my Houzz Ideabook, "Kitchen Wood Cabinets."...See Morelazy_gardens
