Opinions for my 10k to 15k Kitchen Appliance Allowance
Comments (5)I am no expert, but here are my opinions. First, the BS (Bluestar) in a 36" in model will only be 6 burners and not 8. We have the 36" rangetop and it is just my wife and I and we are sooo happy we got the 6 burners 36" model vs the 30" 4 burner model. I saw if you have the space and money do it. Fro the vent hood, you are right don't skimp, get something that will work with the way you cook. You will need to do more research on here and other sites to get a better idea of what you should get. And honestly others on here are more versed in that area than I am so I will not comment more than that. Personally I say never get a "double" oven as there tend to be more issues with those compared to single oven's. That is not to say they are all bad or all have issues, just a general statement. If you want 2 ovens get two singles, or maybe a single oven and some sort of a combi or steam oven. I think you would be happy going either route. Or maybe think long and hard if you really need 2 and if you don't say the extra money to spend elsewhere. Lots of choices of fridges, and again not my strong suit, so read up there is a lot to learn about and then go and see stuff in person. Reading is good, but hands on is better. Bosch is a great brand for a DW, but don't rule out Miele if you can afford it. We love ours and both brands are great. Best of luck to you, and read up on here, lots to learn. Comments (28)thanks everyone for the suggestions! We have lived here since May, and have been pondering the kitchen ever since we had our offer accepted on the house. I think that I essentially like the room's layout to answer fori's question. The thing I'd like is a bit more counter space. I have considered getting rid of the island and putting in a peninsula, but I have a couple concerns at doing this, first and foremost, not totally sure whether the flooring runs under the island. I'm not at all interested in redoing the floors just to move an island. Second, and most importantly, but the cabinets, drawers and counter space on the end of the island closest to the stove & MW get used a TON because the counters, drawers and base cabinet storage is very limited directly to the right and left of the stove. Some folks asked about the room beyond the stove, through the door...it's our laundry/mud room + 4th bedroom and a bathroom and connects the house to the garage. Only place in which to access these rooms is through that door. So unfortunately it can't be blocked off. All the other doors are necessities too. One is to the DR, other to our front living room, the other to the basement. Im definitely toying with the idea of removing those goofy banisters between the kitchen and family room. I need to wait until I'm ready to extend the flooring into the family room though because of the piece that the spindles attach to on the floor. Regarding removing the soffits, I don't believe there's anything in the soffits above the refrigerator area, however I do believe that there's plumbing in the soffits above the main run of cabinets...our bathroom is directly above there and have heard water sounds running through the pipes (which I believe hide in the soffit). So, I'm thinking if I paint, the soffits will get crown molding... Thanks again for all the suggestions!!...See More10K Budget Remodel...Done!
Comments (10)You did an amazing job, beautiful kitchen. You couldn't have posted this at a better time. I am right now priming my kitchen cabinets and getting them ready for paint. Problem is, I haven't picked out a paint color. I went by SW and found Alabaster. I am really leaning towards this color and then you posted. Do you think Alabaster is a bright white or a creamier white? Thanks...See MoreHELP-need to shave 10k from my reno budget:(
Comments (18)Thanks for all of your ideas. Spoke to the powers that be and we will split the cost of the basement "situation". This is the perfect property for us and we plan on this being our final move. I am doing all of the coordinating of work myself. We got an excellent deal on custom cabinets that will be built by the Mennonites in our area. (Their quality and price CAN'T be beat! I didn't hire anyone to give me ideas or plan my new layout (as you can probably tell:( ). I will be doing my own removing of wallpaper and painting myself. We will hold off on doing anything in the ugly bathrooms for now. I have been doing a lot of running around today and found a place that has the Cambria countertop that I want at a cheaper rate (savings $1500.!) Shopped around some more for the flooring and found someone who will do the installation of the floor at a reduced rate (savings $0.65 per square foot) Home Depot has the exact same flooring for $3.29 instead of the $5.50 at the flooring store (savings of $2.21 per square foot!) I looked on-line and found some lighting at Ikea that could work (several hundred dollars savings). I will wait for the backsplash for now and will wait for a sale for my other appliances. I think I really would regret not putting in all of that extra counter space and I have found several thousand dollars by choosing those things mentioned above. This will be my 2nd kitchen reno and I know what I don't want, but am not as certain as to what I do want. I do want the wall removed and floor done before I move in because I don't want to live through that mess again!! Now I have to figure out how I'm going to solve the problem of removing the load-bearing wall:( Thanks so much for all of your ideas....See Moredan1888
