I agree Pink. I like it too! But, that said you seem to be going in two different directions. I'm not a fan of blue walls so I can't help you there.

Make sample boards so you can see how the colors look throughout the day.

Your place already looks like the "after" instead of the "before". I'm not usually a fan of beige but yours looks quite classy and sophisticated. I can't think of a better color than what you already have.

Love your rooms! They have a very serene understated elegance, and I especially like the art and the frames. I love the furniture also because it is not too heavy.

For a color, if you do not like the yellow (I am okay with it), I would go with blue, as it would contrast nicely with the gold frames.

I'd also look at SW Agreeable Gray. It changes depending on light, gray, greige, greenish, bluish.

As far as blue, I like pretty much any, but to me Lake Placid looks a bit cold and baby blue.

I'd sample the usual suspects, like BM Healing Aloe or Quiet Moments, or go a little darker, like BM van Courtland Blue.

Yes, Agreeable Gray has been recommended to me as a good color to highlight wood (in a good way).

Interesting to hear about your situation. I moved into a place with goldish paint which is one of my least favorite colors though I like it better than gray. I thought I'd paint soon after I moved in but the color goes perfectly with everything in the house - even my sofa. I need a professional color consultation to help me figure out what to do.

Do look at Agreeable Gray or Accessible Beige, both SW colors. I think a pale blue is going to put a chill on your lovely warm rooms, and would not go in that direction.

The Weimaraner does make the fireplace surround stand out.

The little color chips were what came out of the SW color consult, Faded Flaxflower which feels depressing to me and Tony Taupe. The Tony Taupe is very similar to the Pashima, slightly warmer, some yellow undertone in it perhaps. The Healing Aloe is very similar to the color of the Tillandsia plants, which is a favorite color of mine.

The thing of it is, the walls have been that yellow for 16 years and I have not liked the color for 16 years and still don't. As to warm, when you live in a warm warm climate that is too warm warm year round, and where the light is very bright and pinky-gold-warm, cool is a relief.

I will go look at Agreeable Grey and Accessible Beige and that van Courtland Blue now. The favorite of the above is Healing Aloe.

I love the idea of the Black Fox for the window trim but am not so keen on the Aesthetic White. I was just playing with SW's color imaging tool, and it looks like Accessible Beige is a couple steps lighter than Tony Taupe, and might pair well with the black, and give some contrast to the fireplace. I would make very sure, though, if you are choosing a color close to your fireplace color, that you don't end up with a "close but not quite" effect with clashing undertones.

Like some others, I thought the Icelandic was too baby blue. It isn't dark, but it also isn't grayed out very much, and that effect gets magnified over a large expanse of wall.

If you really do want to change to a cooler colour, of the ones you have shown so far I prefer the Healing Aloe. Some of the others look a little dark, unless of course that is what you are going for. Your room really does look lovely as it is, and this is coming from a blue/gray person.

The thought from the SW consultant, if a greige was chosen, to go with a darker shade as an "accent wall" on the fireplace wall to avoid that exact "close but not quite" problem. I'm not an accent wall fan, but it did seem like a reasonable idea. This was the problem I was running into with greiges: they make the fireplace surround disappear.

The greyed out thing is what I don't like. I suppose a pure baby blue would be too much though? Even if it was only a faint very pale baby blue?

Miniscule since you are a blue/grey person may I ask what are your favorite blue/greys?

I agree that yellow works well, but I still hate, hate, hate it.

The caveat about Icelandic not being very grayed out was based on my own experience that however bright a color looks on a sample (even a big sample like your boards), it will look even brighter once it is up on an entire wall. I generally have found that choosing something a bit grayer than you think you want will be just right on the wall; choosing something that looks just right on the chip can look overly bright on the walls. But your mileage may vary.

I have this color on my walls (Behr Lime Light). It always looks blue, never gray, It is half as saturated as Icelandic, but even it can go baby blue at certain times of day. (Besides being grayer, it also has more green than Icelandic).

It has to be my monitor, but to me your walls don't look yellow at all, but a soft, light beige. That being the case, my saying that I fell in love with Healing Aloe may not mean much, since I may not be seeing what you are. At any rate, it and Behr Lime Light are the two colors I like the best. I can't imagine your large areas looking good with a dark color like Pashmina or a gray, unless it was a very light, misty gray.

Just wondering, but could you paint your fireplace a creamy white color which would go with practically any wall color you choose? I'm not sure how the color you have now would marry with the Healing Aloe or any other cool tones.

We did Accessible Beige in our living room and I love it. We did it in our family room and it looks like a completely different color. The change is so drastic that I had to prove to my husband by taking the same paint brush and painting a dot on the wall in the living room and he simply would not believe me.

UGH I can totally relate. We moved in to a house in November and much of it is painted yellow. Even rooms that have grey carpet and maroon or green drapes. i just hate it. I hope I can get rid of it before 16 years!

I love your rooms (blocking the color) I think white would be too stark though, and I dont love the thought of blue - maybe because I had that for 5 years in my last house and it was just off. Is there a reason you haven't mentioned a cream color? I think that would work with everything you have. or maybe asthetic white is actually cream?

It all depends on the light in your rooms. I was completely determined to use BM Healing Aloe, but it just didn't work in my Northfacing room. I have to say I love it in your room.

Definitely sample Agreeable Gray and Accessible Beige and carry the boards/sheets around from wall to wall. In one of my rooms, AG seemed slightly purplish.

Another contender could be BM Balboa Mist.

Take a look at BM smokey taupe, it's a blend of gray and beige and it's a beautiful soft warm tone. Paint

Ingrid it is really yellow.

The living room/entry is south facing and the light is very bright, so much so we have exterior sun shades on the windows so the carpet won't melt.

One thing I noticed about paint color is that amount of wall in the room is a factor. I was considering a neighbor's beautiful kitchen which has dark dark navy blue walls. But the room is bright and cheerful! There is hardly any wall as there is considerable casework, plus cabinets, large doorways, and so on, so the dark navy is an accent that gives emphasis to the casework, rather than being vast fields of darkness. In my LR/Entry/DR there is a vast quantity of wall. I was thinking of adding some casework which would involve an architect to make sure it was appropriate.

Hoovb, the colour I have in the main rooms is BM Silver Mist. There is also an adjoining entry, open staircase down, and the fireplace surround painted in BM Smokestack. These rooms all face north. I recently had a bedroom painted in Behr Light French Gray. The picture of the bedroom was taken on a dark winter day complete with lots of snow on the ground, lots of rain and a thunderstorm!

hoovb, I don't know if this helps at all, but in our living room we painted the fireplace because the previous owners had a darker color with even darker stripes going across it. Anyway, the rest of the living room is painted a cream color that's similar to the fireplace, and I decided to paint the two walls adjoining the fireplace a soft gray with green undertones. It really made the fireplace stand out in what I think is a good way. If you were to paint your fireplace, if that's something you're even willing to consider, a color like Healing Aloe or one of the pretty tones shown above, I would think that would give that area a cooler and more serene look and you can dump the yellow without anything clashing.

I like the Accessible Beige but Dear Husband does not. He says it looks dirty. It exactly matches some of the tones in the flooring and is nearly identical to the fireplace surround, and extremely close to the couch color, which would make the couches sort of disappear and an accent wall color for the fireplace wall necessary.

SW Accessible Beige on top, SW Creamy on the bottom. SW Creamy is really yellow. Too yellow.

Was thinking about adding some trim like this (not in Georgian style because mine is not a Georgian style house) to break up the blankness a bit.

I wonder to what extent the surrounding yellow reflects on the paint samples.

In my rooms, SW Creamy isn't yellow at all.

I like the cream!!! I have to say though it took me about 15 samples to fin a non yellow cream in my last house. Or should I say one that didn't look yellow or pink or green or brown. I found that priming a huge span of wall and painting the samples on that really helped. I did it on two walls and dh had to paint over the swatches once because I was trying so many. But I was so happy when I hit the perfect color!

Could you afford to hire a decorator who is good with color to come by for an hour? You have such a big space, that it might be worth it. I think some of the grays and blue will fight with the warm tones of the furniture. Also, a professional may have suggestions of a couple of colors that could work together. Just a thought.

Yeah, I might have to do that, except I won't. Finding a decorator would be as difficult as finding a paint color. We should have bought a house that I liked the color of, then I could just repaint it the same color, ha ha!

I say go with the Healing Aloe. I have Mount Saint Anne from the same strip on my living room walls with white trim, lots of wood tones in furniture and floor, and Bleeker Beige on the adjoining dining room walls. It all blends beautifully. I think blue/green shades tend to fit better with other colors than the baby/ice blue shades.

Your rooms are beautiful and it sounds like you are ready for a change. Good luck, I think the switch to a cool color is just what you need.
