Need to install new heat pump
Comments (3)x2 on tigerdunes post. you have lots of different things going on. each bid includes something the other doesn't bid 2 install condensate pump and wiring in crawls space for condensate trap required by code. Add 12x12 cold air return in closet.(are you short on return air??) Replacing return plenum and filter rack where it is loose now. Replacing breaker or box at outdoor unit. Install 4 circuit electrical box and breakers in crawl space. beware that other companies might add these items on rather than bid them upfront & increase bid. bid three: variable speed air handler only bid with vs ahu..which really helps control RH. ask for cost of varible speed air handler on each bid heat strips...what size? line set for compressor protection surge protector for the outdoor compressor pad...for compressor?? digital control, pad, and line set. As required by International Energy Conservation Code a new outdoor thermostat will be installed. IECC only requires bid #3 to do this?? while bid 1...Trane is the least expensive bid and the most expensive equipment they leave out everything but the basics. although they do tell what size heat strips. you aren't getting a real apples to apples comparism. call each back & ask about items the other company bid (without giving co names) find out what you really need. do you need condensate pump? a new pad? new electrical? who knows?? this would also be the time to ask for a load calculation. rather than the rule of thumb sizing they are all using. mastic sealing ductwork & supply boxes where they enter via the floor, mastic seal of plenums to equipment are always necessary, but in a crawlspace you don't want to be pulling dirt & humid air into the house. kudos on the media filter. putting a media filter on a well sealed (mastic sealed) duct system is a good step. once you get this information.. then get model numbers of condensors, air handler units, and size of heat strips. then you can do a comparism. as is, you don't really know much about what you need, only what they want to sell you. best of luck...See MoreNew Heat Pump install- Carrier Greenspeed
Comments (12)It is my understanding based on what I have read, the Infinity Controller can be programmed to have a furnace and heat pump lock out temperature. For example the heat pump lock out could be set to 30 degrees, and the furnance lock out could be set to 35 degrees. When the temperature is in the 30-35 degree range the heat pump would first come on (low stage, then high stage). If the temperature can be be achieved in a specified time, then the heat pump would shut down and the furnace would take over. The spread between the two lock out temperatures can be set from 5 to 55 degrees. The factory default is none....See MoreNew heat pump install - trane vs. lennox
Comments (2)mel first of all, the Trane system quoted is three ton, the Lennox system two ton. what size are you replacing? The XL15i comes in 1/2 ton increments, the XP19 only available in full ton increments. Lennox XP19 two ton 551638 Active Systems XP19 SERIES LENNOX INDUSTRIES, INC. XP19-024-230* CBX32MV-024/030-230* 24000 13.30 17.60 22000 8.85 12900 Trane XL15i three ton 1382162 Active Systems XL15I WEATHERTRON TRANE 4TWX5036A1 4TEE3F39A1 36000 13.00 15.00 34000 9.00 note that the 3F39 air handler is the correct choice for the three ton XL15i I don't recognize the stat listed for the Trane system. For superior humidity control, the best choice is HW VP IAQ. any heat strips should be staged for operating cost. I personally think the Trane XL15i is one of the best sgl stg HPs on the market and that two stg systems are overkill and unnecessary for most homeowner applications. I would want R8 insulation for new attic ductwork, both supply and return. let me know if you have any questions. IMO Good Luck!...See MoreNew Carrier Heat Pump Being Installed Next Week
Comments (9)vadave the Performance 15 Heat Pump is available in two different models. The "A" model and then the improved heating efficiency of the "H" model. For your area, the "H" model would be the better choice. Plus I would ask for the prewired 9KW staged heat strip. see below AHRI numbers. 1258714 Active Systems PERFORMANCE 15 PURON HP CARRIER AIR CONDITIONING 25HPA530A30 FE4AN(B,F)003+UI 29000 13.20 16.00 28800 8.50 1125501 Active Systems PERFORMANCE 15 PURON HP CARRIER AIR CONDITIONING 25HPA530H30 FE4AN(B,F)003+UI 29200 13.00 15.00 28600 9.00 IMO...See MoreNathaniel Puyau
