Small Bathroom Help 6'6'' x 5'. Convert Bedroom to Bathroom?
Comments (17)You are going to want more than 32" for the toilet. 36" is standard (and perhaps even code in some areas???? Not here in Maine but I heard people saying that on other forums...) We have 34" and it feels fine but I dont think I'd want to go much tighter. You could solve that simply by flipping the closet and shower. So, have your shower -rotated 90 degrees and witha glass end wall- at the end of the tub (which is a nice setup you can see in many bathrooms, the tub deck can actually protrude under the shower glass wall and be a ledge or seat in the shower). Then the passageway moves to the left, and you can steal a bit of space from the other closet for the toilet. Either that of have a shorter vanity. 48" isn't a size I'd fight for. It's too short for a double vanity, really (unless you're using one of the new two-faucet 'trough" styles) so why not go down to 42" and have a better toilet area? For resale, though, you should consider a double vanity. Some people I guess expert truly huge ones, like at least 5+' long. But you CAN get smaller ones, Ikea has some great ones for tight spaces. But if you're not selling anytime soon, do what YOU like!! (But I still think you'll want more toilet space...)...See Morehelp me with these bathroom paint colors and finishes (x-post)
Comments (2)Ppbenn, thanks for the response. Paint is so funny. I look at it and look at it...on the wall...on my painted boards...day and night. I am so sympathetic towards you for having painted all of those times in your kitchen, but I can understand the need for color perfection. The soapstone sink will be new. I got the idea to make it myself after I fashioned my own soapstone counters (with the help of my DH for the heavy lifting and strategic planning). NOBODY wanted to help me so we were on our own. I loved working on the stuff so I will make my own sink for the bathroom. I think I am a natural sculptor. After I get back from a retreat at the end of April I will start on this remodel and the sink build. The carpenter will build my sink cabinet sort of like I've drawn. I want the sink to function as a nice bathroom sink and a laundry sink. This room is a hard working room in our home. Hope it all works out. The faucet will be a Hansgrohe wall mount Montreux, in chrome. The spout actually adjust from 6-8" from the wall, which is perfect for me since I will be building my own sink and lord knows where the drain will end up :) Initially I wanted to go with brushed nickel for the warm look, but I got a good deal on the bath filler in chrome, so chrome it was. I am happy with this cause I like the shine. Here is the faucet for the sink:...See MoreLayout help? X-post w/ bathrooms
Comments (4)Thanks mtnrdredux . I will try the room planner. The small w/c was one of my concerns with this proposal. If I made one of those doors a shower, I'd have no room for closet space at all, that's the only issue. I don't need a lot of space since we only live here during the winter, but it is the master bedroom and bath so I don't want to make the closet unreasonably small. What about this as an option Kind of a take-of on this picture: The wall of closets would go on the right side. Toilet room in one of the 4 ft boxes and walk-in shower in the other....See Morex-post bathrooms, help me find this faucet
