Exotic Angel Hoya Bella- is it ID'd right?
Comments (13)Hi Leon, maybe I should have been more clear - it's Hoya sp. sulawesii. Exotic Angel has a plant on their site that looks like the picture - and has it labeled Hoya sp. sulawesii. Whether one really exists or not, I don't know, I am not an expert, but there IS one in Exotic Angel's little world, and also you will find the name on other sites if you google it. Brevialata usually comes up in association with sulawessii, and also incurvula. I know there are alot of mislabeled hoyas out there, and EA has been selling quite a few of them, so who knows! Look up the brevialata flowers and only when it blooms can you be even close to sure. About repotting EA plants in all cases, I have done it and lost the plant, I have NOT done it and the plant has thrived. It depends on the condition of the plant when you get it and how long it has been there in the store- if the pot is extremely heavy and waterlogged, with moss growing on the surface of the soil, and the plant has the signs of being overwatered, then I would MAYBE take a chance by repotting, but for the most part I would give it time to dry out well before watering again, and do this several times, giving the plant a chance to recover on it's own. I have complained to EA by email more than once about their soil and I am not positive of this, but the most recent EA purchase of mine was a linearis and I do believe that the soil is different from the soil in my other EA plants. It would be nice to think that they might actually listen to their customers! The linearis, by the way, I have had all summer and did not repot and it is doing great. Also, alot of these plants are not much more past being well rooted cuttings, with still-shallow root systems, so I water sparingly - that helps keep them from getting too waterlogged too....See MoreExotic Angel Plants and Questions...
Comments (13)Thanks ladies...I did hours of searching on the web...I'm sure that hoya #2 is Krinkle 8...each leaf has 4 dimples on each side of the leaf. Boy, EA is really messed up...they also list H. tsangii as DS 70, as well as H. bilobata as DS 70. Both of the EA's I started this thread with are called "Mini wax leaf"...and #1 says it's H. carnosa, #2 says it's H. bella. No, you're right Denise...there's no mention of "bella" on EA's website, but, neither is there mention of "Mini wax leaf" or Krinkle 8 with/or without mention of carnosa or bella!!! But, I thank you both for the help...I believe we've got them correctly ID'd. Now, can you clear up the confusion about H. bilobata...I was under the impression that this plant was DS-70...or is it also H. tsangii? Too confusing for this old guy!! I learned that there's absolutely no way #2 is a "bella"...perhaps the labels did get switched around...no one could be that stupid to call this plant a "bella"!! lol Thanks so much ladies! Fondly, Patrick...See MoreI just spoke with Exotic Angel...
Comments (30)I may be back here for some recommendations for more "lovable" hoyas once a few things settle down. I really love the flowers, and if I had the space, there would be more hoyas in my life. My obsession tends toward succulents (I work on the top floor of glass building, and sit next to a south-facing wall... it's almost TOO MUCH sun) and orchids (because I'm crazy ... is there any other answer?). The next few months will, I hope, see me moving to a new apartment, where I can hopefully have more dedicated space for my little green friends (Greentoe, I live in Sunnyside, just next to Astoria!). I'm glad I took that photo above, because looking at it made it more obvious that the darn cat had uprooted a piece and left it in the pot (see the more withered bit on the left?). It has since been saved. This weekend it goes out on the patio. It is has lasted long enough in the house, poor thing!...See MoreExotic Angels Plant! New? "Red Ruby"
Comments (14)So I was at Walmart last night(again) and found this ficus. All of them have the same "Red Ruby" tag. There were at least 10 of the varigatied ones and the solid ones so I know it wasn't a tag mistake. This one looks like the "Ruby" ficus I already have P.S. I bought the cutie of course! The husband isn't too happy though. Lol...See MoreLauren (Zone 9a)
