Does anyone here use a greenhouse? Does the sun bake yours?
Comments (3)Howdy, I too have an 8x12 green house. Wish it was larger, or better yet, a solarium built to the house. Inside are larger plants that no longer fit in the house. Citrus, Agaves, a few Aloes, Olive tree, variegated Ginger, and a few other odds and ends. Plants are kept in the gh during winter months..once temps warm up, plants are set outdoors. With utility prices, why pay extra when plants do well outside, not to mention easier to manage...? The first year it was erected, 'December, Christmas present,) on the coldest night of the year, the heater went out. In the process, I lost either 32 or 37 plants which froze. I cried, literally cried. After that dreadful night, we figured the problem and made sure the gas heater was working. We added an electric heater in case something went wrong with the gas again. We also purchased a temp/guage/alarm. The guage displays indoor, outdoor and gh temps and humidity. If temp drops to 45F, the alarm beeps. The guage is kept in the house. Mike, although Feb is cold, 'usually the coldest month of the year,' the sun is stronger and will burn certain plants. I hesitate adding shading since most plants are sun lovers, and eventually adapt to strong rays. During summer, gh temps reaches 117F+. This last summer, especially July, temps rose 140 and higher. Even with two opened vents and the storm/screen door ajar. Although my gh is on the small side, it's great having extra space. Don't know what I'd do without the extra room. It's a great investment, especially for those of us who have, more than a few, plants. lol. Toni...See MoreDoes anyone here have documented adermatoglyphia?
Comments (2)Adermatoglyphia is 'no fingerprints'. It is not due to your work, chemicals, age. You are born without fingerprints and usually much lesser toe/foot prints. It means you are one of 5 families from Sweden area. This makes sense for me as my mother/her family were from Limburg Germany. Would like to meet others with same genetics as we would be relatives. I am not fond of DNA companies as they are bought/sold and public results can change....See MoreDoes anyone here use a French-style butter crock?
Comments (23)I used to have one that someone gave me, but it broke. I found it awkward to use, and it required more maintenance than it was worth - at least for me. I do not keep butter on the counter, and I never put butter on toast, pancakes, or waffles. About the only time I use butter on something that has already been cooked is potatoes or vegetables, and then only rarely. I generally make a velouté sauce for vegetables instead. When I make pancakes or waffles, I add cream and sufficient butter to the batter that they do not need any more butter after they are cooked. If I want butter on toast, I generally make garlic toast, and I mix butter, garlic, herbs, and olive oil into a spread to put on the bread before toasting/grilling it. I can't think of ever putting plain butter on toast or bread....See MoreDoes anyone here use a gelli plate for making monoprints?
Comments (15)This was a stencil. It’s waiting for me to decide what to add. Hard to see but the background of this is a print from lace. I collage on small boxes. This was a print made from a stencil. This is a box, too. The background is the same stencil from the first pic, then the same stencil as the 3rd pic. I haven’t done anything with tea bags yet, but I have some stashed away to try embroidery on. This isn’t mine but just an example:...See More- 9 years ago
