Dried out leaves on Japanese Maple...HELP!!!
Comments (16)I live in Mn and many years ago I worked for a plant store. There was a local vender who sold his bonsais through us. The evergreen ones had to go through cold storage during winter months. He offered to, for a fee to over winter them in a cold frame green house..winters here are too cold to just put them outdoors. Of course most customers didn't want to bother so he didn't sell too many of those, also most customers didn't know this. He did sell some tropical ones also that didn't need cold dormancy but most people wanted the evergreen type of typical bonsai. He did have a few maples at times too but they need a cold dormancy, but not quite as prolonged or as low a temperature....See MoreMy newly dug japanese maple tree is wilting...help!
Comments (5)I just wanted to thank everyone for their advice. I trimmed the branches as directed and I moved them to shade. I had a neighboring landscaper replant the trees under the shaded area this morning. They did a great job and finished off the job with mulch and placed burlap over the trees to help protect them from burning. This landscaper had driven by property over the weekend and saw that I had these trees in the drums and thought to himselfÂ"Those trees are going to die, if not already dead." However, he informed me this morning that he was happier with the condition of the trees and root system, then what he anticipated. The next several days are vital and I need to spray the leaves often throughout the day, but he feels that these trees are going to make it. He charged me a $100 bucks and was here with 2 other workers for almost 2 hours. What a great price and he now has a customer that will by future trees from him. He stated that the trees were worth $500 - $600 a piece. I told him about this forum and he was glad that I took the advice to plant them in the ground. He will move them again for me next March. Thanks again!!...See MoreJapanese Maple Damage, need help
Comments (13)I'm glad your damage wasn't as severe as I thought. You've been given some good advice on pruning. I think you'll be surprised how it looks when it's done. On another note, I would not refer a company to anyone for an accident, especially if they felt bad about it. Accidents happen as we know just from the weather. I'd hate to count the times that I've accidentally stepped back on something or dropped something myself and broken a plant or limbs. Now if they didn't care that it happened it's a different story, but to possibly hurt someone's livelihood is a big step to take. Cher...See Morejapanese Maple dried brown leaves??
Comments (3)It sounds like not enough water to me. Most people underwater their newly planted trees and have little idea how much water trees need to being with. When you water it every 2-3 days, how long are you watering it for? I have sandy loam gravely soil that drains really well and water my 6 foot maple trees 1200 gallons of water ( I know the gpi of my water pump) 2-3 times a week. I saturate the area around my tree. Within one minute of stopping the water all the water is already drained underneath. 2 years ago I planted some trees and watered 10 gallons 3 times a week like many people say, and every tree went into transplant shock, they all turned brown, lost all their leaves, leaves came back but went right into early fall foliage. So I said to heck with this and started watering based on what was right for our soil. I learned right away that what may be right for some soils is not at all right for others. These 3 maples I planted just this year have grown over a foot and a half, and are luscious and green, not a hint of shock to be found. The next day the soil doesn't even look like it's been watered at all. I guess it all depends on how well your soil drains but to me it sounds like you are not giving them enough water....See Morenicholsworth Z6 Indianapolis
