LED recessed can retrofit kit
Comments (4)Thanks David. I was referring to using a BR30 bulb (which is design to reflect the light downward rather than a standard omnidirectional bulb). What is the advantage of the kit over a BR30 bulb? Does laying the LEDs out on the area under the diffuser make them last longer, provide more light, etc? With the rebate they were only $10 so I bought 9 kits (1 as a spare) but I didn't want to open them up until I understood why they were better than just replacing the bulb. Since the retrofit bulbs have their own trim, my concern is what happens if one goes out in two years and that model isn't made any more? We have 4 Cree can retrofits in the kitchen and one went out after a year or so but they were still available. I would think a mismatch wouldn't be as noticeable if you just swapped to LED BR30 bulbs and kept the original can and trim. Either way you have to worry about mismatched color temps etc. But different trim seems like it would stand out. Then again, my husband nailed a scrap piece of sheetrock over a hole he made when he slipped and put his foot through the kitchen ceiling on his way back from fixing a frozen pipe that ruptured. It was there for over 6 mos and no one ever noticed it!...See MoreLED Recessed Lighting Help -Kitchen Remodel- downlight brand/retrofit?
Comments (3)Are you in California? That would be the only place you "need" an "LED" housing that is marked as "title 24 compliant". There are several different ways to go otherwise. An LED housing may only be different from a standard housing in that there is no screw shell on the end of the wires to hold a lightbulb. There are also adaptors for that in most LED light kits. A retrofit usually means that the LED screws in like a lightbulb. Another difference is that on some strictly LED systems, the transformer is on/outside the housing instead of in the lightbulb which lowers the heat level, presumably prolonging the life of the LED..... The best way to learn about them is to read up on all the different types here. http://www.cooperindustries.com/content/public/en/lighting/brands/halo/recessed/downlighting/_6_inch.html...See MoreRecessed Can Size for 7.5 foot ceilings and LED Retrofit trim
Comments (1)We used 4" recessed in all of our 8' ceilings and are happy with it. I would also add that to the degree you get worse diffusion with a 4" light, it really doesn't matter that much as this is a hallway and you aren't spending time there - just passing through....See MoreAnybody know of LED retrofits for 11.5 inch square recessed lighting?
Comments (0)Hi. I have a bunch of these exterior lights installed in a roof overhang for a commercial application (strip mall type area.) https://www.homedepot.com/p/Progress-Lighting-11-5-in-White-Square-Recessed-Lighting-Housing-and-Trim-P6416-30TG/202650218 They're flush mounted into the stucco, so they're most likely not going to come out without breaking the stucco. Does anybody know of a LED retrofit that will work? maybe something like these where the lens cover is the retrofit (but the size is way to small) [https://www.houzz.com/products/square-led-8x8-recessed-can-retrofit-kit-3000k-cct-prvw-vr~50687798[(https://www.houzz.com/products/square-led-8x8-recessed-can-retrofit-kit-3000k-cct-prvw-vr~50687798) I've been Googling around and found nothing so far. Thanks in advance!...See MoreUser
