Help Me Decide What Trees To Put In Front Yard
Comments (18)Crapemyrtles are actually fairly long lived and some cultivars can get 20-30 feet tall. It's a very well behaved tree and a safe choice for your front yard. Crapes are prettiest when allowed to make several trunks. Shade trees make a big difference: At the beginning of this summer I had my Mulberry tree cut down. It has been hotter than H E double toothpicks. The difference between tree and no tree has been dramatic. I don't remember being this miserable in a long time. So it was damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead: I did what I was not supposed to and planted not one, but two London Planes in my 30 foot deep front yard (It's 80' wide). They are situated fairly close to the fenceline and will shade my yard and a good part of the road. There are no powerlines or sewer over there for them to interfere with. Also being on a corner lot, they're not going to droop over into anyone else's yard. I was going for maximum overkill for shade and aircooling. Shading part of the street will also combat the hot pavement effect. They're growing quickly but they can't grow fast enough for me....See MorePutting a sign in yard 'Selling Soon! Check back in April!'
Comments (30)@Hollysprings- good point. I guess, to me, the wording choices seemed condescending and not contributory to an open discussion. We've actually had both a realtor and an appraiser out. They both came up with the same figure, which was actually a little higher than what I was expecting, so that was nice! However, I'm completely aware that this doesn't mean that it will sell for that.....or that the buyer's appraiser will come up with the same value. We called several realtors up and told them that we were going to attempt FSBO for a few months and would like to see if anyone wanted to help us out with pricing. I got a few calls back, and we finally picked a very successful local realtor. She came out and looked at the house, gave me FSBO advice and sent me my market value when she had it ready. She thought we wouldn't have any problem selling it. If, of course, we can't sell it, we'll be calling her up to employ her services. I don't feel like she was artificially inflating the price just so I would use her (or fail at FSBO). She's one of Dave Ramsey's ELPs, so she has a reputation to protect. And when the appraiser came back with the same figure, I felt confident with the amount. (One was not aware of the other.) I also really enjoy following the local market and take extra notice of what's selling and what's not. I am a little worried about having the sign in the yard too long. But I'm a little worried about LOTS of things! :) I guess I feel like, if we fail, we can just stay put for a few more months and then list it with our realtor. Hopefully by then, there will be a new set of buyers who won't remember our first attempt. And, we're not putting it on the MLS for our FSBO, so it won't show up with a ton of DOM. BUT, I hope even more, we'll sell it quickly and won't have to worry about this scenario!...See MoreHeavy rainfall floods my entire yard and garage
Comments (14)I agree with others who say this is a municipal issue; we have the same problems in Seattle where we got 48 inches of rain this winter. The city is responsible for keeping water from the street from entering your property, and you are responsible for the water that falls on your property (roof, driveway, etc.) Your side neighbors are responsible for managing the water that falls on theirs, and they are not allowed to divert it to yours. Get sandbags immediately across the driveway at the street, and also around your house. Then contact the city, and have them inspect the situation. I cannot stress this enough. Finally, manage the water you have by ensuring you have downspouts that direct water away from your house and garage into swales on your property, so that the water is absorbed into your landscape. Consider this to be a landscaping opportunity, because that extra water will support a beautiful garden, as well as being a responsible neighbor and protecting your investment as a homeowner....See MoreBookshelves fixed - now let's update the entire living room
Comments (330)Julie that sounds horrible. I’m so sorry and let me say it a southern way.. bless your heart and Lord, I pray for God to wrap his arms around and your husband and allow healing. What an ordeal!! I can handle most but dressing wounds is something else. I do hope you have a very Merry Christmas. I can’t wait to see pictures of your beautiful home. I retired December 2021 and this is currently my Christmas gig. My son in law is a UPS driver and I’m his Christmas helper and whatever character I can bring to the truck. It’s fun, physical and rewarding. Never a dull moment....See MoreCamilla Bottelberghe
